I've searched and found a few threads here, but nothing of substantial use to me.

Title says it all, I'm looking for a decent to good quality shot time at a reasonable price. I believe $200 for an over glorified stop watch with a speaker and buzzer is bullshit.

Always just used a battle buddy with a stop watch before, sure it isnt as accurate but its free...now that I'm doing more shooting on my own and am trying to hone in on some skills, I'm finding it necessary to buy a shot timer...

Why the explanation, cause every shot timer thread I read here some smart ass wants to know why the guy wants one...so there it is.

So...any suggestions for a fairly inexpensive shot timer?

I totally second the Surefire app. It almost makes me want to get a smart phone so it's not stuck on my ipad. I'd bet there's an android equivalent, too.

I also like the CED7000's. They're compact and have all the good features. You're still spending over $100, though. http://www.cedhk.com/shop/products/CED7000-Shot%252dActivated-Timer.html is the link to the manufacturer's web site. You could probably find a better price.

Your best bet (other than a free app if you already have a smart phone) is to keep an eye out for a used timer regardless of the brand.

I own lot of timers. I have nine of the CED 8000 and two CED 7000. Both are nice.

For matches the 8000 is good with the big display that is easy to read. Its big size and silly blue color makes it hard to "borrow." The 7000 is nice because it runs on rechargeable batteries and is small. But the display can be hard to read.

Both are top notch for me as you can set the mic volume up so it can pick up 22s and rifles with suppressors.

Yep, called "Shot Timer Pro". https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sis.shottimerprofull&hl=en

Sensitive enough to pick up airsoft, BB guns and dryfire and it has a bunch of storage features. It is $10 for the Pro version. There is a trail version and a free version as well.

The ability to calibrate for YOUR shot profile is amazing. You can be on the range with people shooting on both sides and it will pick up YOUR shots almost all the time.

I have CED and Pact Club timers too. The CEDs are the better units.
