View Full Version : Geneology Sites
Any of them worth the price of admission? Looking more for an active forum then reading old census reports.
Found some information recently that dates my Grandfather's family back to 1730 in Virginia. Now I want to fill in the blanks.

Look for your local LDS church in the yellow pages. They almost always have a local genealogical library and know which software works and which is just phishing.
Doesn't the LDS Have a online site that is free?
Edit: Here it is
https://familysearch.org/

ancestry.com has been good to me, not cheap by any means, but works well.
ancestry.com has been good to me, not cheap by any means, but works well.
Cheap to start but once you go deep or international it gets costly. We got back 5 generations to both Ireland and Bavaria on my side. Haven't found the time to go further. My FIL got back to the 1500's before he passed away. Don't blindly accept everything you find on ancestry. com, there are lots of errors.
I would second ancestry.com, quite a bit of info there it just takes time but genealogy research does.
Been poking around on genealogy.com but their search engine is useless. Then again, it's free.
Thanks for the help.
