View Full Version : White House urges Lockheed Martin to not lay off before the election
With the defense cuts LM is laying off a reported 35,000 employees, but the white house asked them not to right before the election. Obama has offered to cover their fine costs for not giving advanced warning of mass layoffs. This man will stop at nothing to try and get reelected.

Yeah, I heard about this earlier this week. Unfreakinbelievable. It just goes to show, again, that the laws are for us, the unwashed masses, but not for those in power. Especially Dear Leader.

I hope there are 35 thousand lawsuits against LM when it all goes down so horribly. Companies that violate public ethics like this need to be spanked hard.

I heard a rumor from an employee that Ball Aerospace is doing the same thing.
Edit
Let me rephrase that - The White House wanted them to do this, but it sounded like Ball was ignoring it and going ahead with the WARN Act notifications.
Well the administration who told them to break the rule is the same one who made the rule in the first place. Chicago politics at it's finest

What do you expect from a typical Chicago politician. When he refers to himself as "Your President" that gets me going but I get damn irate when he refers to himself as "Your Commander in Chief". I absolutely despise that title for THIS guy![Mad]
Hopefully Romney calls him out on this in the next debate and it is in commericals all over the place. Our tax dollars used to fake unemployment numbers.
35,000 more votes for Romney hopefully
Sure as hell ,they know what's up.

On a serious note this is a flagrant disgusting display of the misuse of power.

Just how many unl(awful) things must this administration perpetrate before people get a clue?
How I wish we had a Congress with testicles.
Ball and Lockheed should tell the admenstruation to FO & D.
Of course then any contract with the Fed would get pulled.
That'll shoot 7.9% unemployment (falsified) in the keester.....

It's not just LockMart. Hundreds of thousands of Defense contractor jobs are going to get cut without the legally required advance notice to the employees.
Congress put this sort of a dead-mans switch into place in the 2011 Budget Control Act called sequestration. This will cut $500 billion from the defense budget on top of the already agreed upon $487 billion (that's almost $1Trillion in defense budget cuts). The only way to avoid all of the layoffs is for the Congressional Budget "SuperCommittee" to come up with a deficit reduction plan.
Each person laid off represents a potential lawsuit from the severed employee against their former employer for failure to provide legally required notification... And a Federal fine. Essentially, Oblunder has promised the employers that the .fed will cover their legal fees and the fines if they wait until AFTER THE ELECTION to tell the employees they are going to be let go. Notifying tHem BEFORE THE ELECTION pretty much guarantees they won't be voting for Oblunder & will wreck havoc on him in the polls.
I could easily be among those cut.
ETA 10/8/12: Did a little checking today. It looks like there will be upwards of 400,000 people laid off when this thing goes into effect. No wonder the annointed one doesn't want people notified until after the election. For each person laid off there can easily be another 2 or 3 voters directly effected and many more indirectly effected. Talk about voter manipulation.
Lockheed's a great company, they keep secrets. Their employee votes are not secret.

I herrrrrd that!
John Boehner is a worthless sack of crap. As Speaker he should be slamming Dear Leader all day every day on every media outlet that will have him on for the crap Dear Leader is pulling. But he doesn't seem to have the testicular fortitude, or he just doesn't care. Oh how I wish we had a good Speaker of the House.
well, I must say, if this info is already out there now, those people just made up their mind who they will vote for.
Hopefully is this goes down as published, there is something Romeny can do to reverse it or something.

Paul Ryan: Romney would undo defense cuts ‘retroactively’
Paul Ryan said Thursday that if Congress fails to pass legislation averting $500 billion in automatic defense cuts set to take effect in January 2013, a potential Romney-Ryan administration would work to undo those cuts “retroactively.”
The statement, made by presumptive GOP vice-presidential nominee Ryan in a roundtable discussion at a defense-related nonprofit organization not far from Fort Bragg, marks the first time that the GOP White House ticket has floated the idea of trying to undo the looming across-the-board defense cuts after they are set to occur.
“I don’t want to get too technical, but in January our intention is, if we don’t fix it in the lame duck, is to fix it retroactively once a new session of Congress takes place,” Ryan said in response to a question from an attendee at the defense roundtable.
“Now, we believe that we have a procedural way in the Senate to advance that legislation very quickly and get it to the next president of the United States — who I believe is going to be Mitt Romney — to pass it into law and retroactively prevent that sequester from taking place in January,” Ryan continued.
Ryan was referring to legislation passed by the Republican-led House in May that would replace the defense cuts with reductions to food stamps and an array of other programs. The measure passed the House with the support of 218 Republicans and no Democrats.
The scenario sketched out by Ryan would appear to hinge on Republicans holding the House, winning the White House and re-taking the Senate.
It’s unclear how such a move to “retroactively” restore the defense funding might work. The across-the-board cuts are part of a $1.2 trillion trim to both defense and non-defense spending over the next decade set to take effect in early January if Congress doesn’t act. The cuts were set into motion by last summer’s debt-ceiling deal, which Ryan voted for.
If the GOP ticket wins in November, Romney and Ryan would not take office until Jan. 21, 2013, after the first round of cuts has been made.
“The Romney-Ryan ticket is dedicated to protecting America’s economy and national security from the impact of President Obama’s devastating defense cuts. If the President will not lead on this issue before January, we will,” Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said in a statement.
Why are you guys saying they will be cut without notice? It sounds like you are assuming that no one will be obeying the law. In my limited reading I haven't seen anyone announce they will not be complying with the law.
The notices aren't required until November 2. I have read of several companies have already sent out warnings to the people affected that they will send out notices in November unless the budget thing is resolved.
The fact that the obama administration is saying they will pay the legal expenses for private businesses to not comply with the law is reprehensible (it sucks too). It was bad enough when they pressured businesses to ignore the law several months ago.

Trust me... there has been no 'notification' of whose jobs are on the table.
If there were, there would be 135 thousand new job searchers out there today
LM isn't the only one... its guessed the number is nearer to 350K+ people will lose the jobs either directly or immediately indirectly by the cuts.
The soldiers in the field will feel this almost immediately.
There is no contingency plan for "there is no more support for that."
