So with NFA timelines the way they are I'm thinking it will be a week or two till the approval of my QD YHM .308 Ti Phantom. I will be installing a muzzle device on my M1A Scout Squad (using a Delta P adapter) and on my Ruger Gunsite Scout. Anyone have an opinion or direct knowledge/experience with the flash hider versus brake design available as the QD muzzle device? Chances are the guns will not be fired unsupressed ever again, but if so which would be a better choice brake or flash hider? On both guns? One type on one and one type on another? I'm leaning towards a brake on the M1A and a flash hider on the bolt gun. Backwards thinking? Smart thinking?

Personally I don't put a brake on anything I'm planing on using as a weapon. Flash hiders only, esp. on a shorter barreled .308. True they aren't as comfy, but they don't blind you and announce your position.

I have no idea about Phantom cans. The cranky guy who made my Ops cans recommended using the brake on SBRs. It serves as the first baffle/blast chamber, taking the brunt of the blast. It is considered sacrificial. Having said that, I doubt it much matters on a 16" barrel. In which case I would go with whichever you like better.

^what he said^ I have also heard that a brake is better from the suppressors stand point. As far as muzzle flash goes the suppressor will take care of that.

I'm aware of the brake acting in a sacrificial capacity, that is sort of why I'm looking at it. With the purchase of a Phantom, YHM includes 1 muzzle device. I've already picked up a slightly used QD flash supressor, so I'm covered for one rifle.

If, for some reason I choose to fire either rifle without the supressor (why? I don't know), I'm wondering if the brake would help with controlling muzzle rise better than the FS. Do I really need to over think this?
