I've been eyeing a Liberty Fatboy Jr. Seems to be a decent compromise on size, features, and protection.

One of these in the trading post section for a good price.
Sorry OP, you won't be able to see it for 30 days.....

Check the Trading Post. I dunno if it sold, but El Caballo Loco was selling a Fatboy Jr at a helluva deal...

dunno if you can access it as a n00b, though...
I got mine from Jim at the Gun Show. I'll look for his card.

Ask yourself this: how long of a response time would it take a fire department to reach you?
Typically in an urban setting it takes the FD less than 10 minutes to reach you.
Realistically paying for anything more than 30 minutes of protection is false economy.
Spend the additional money on a larger safe. If you feel the need for additional fire protection 5/8" sheetrock is cheap.
Always buy more safe than you think you need.

Lots of good information here, especially regarding safe fire ratings:

Unless the 10K of ammo you bought off the Internet starts popping off, then all the Fire Dept. is going to do is evacuate the street and watch the fireworks.....
Seen it happen, Don't ask for details.......[Tooth]

Let us just suffice to say that the details are relative, a close relative..........[LOL]
Check out Costco, they usually have some great deals on safes.

I sold you a safe? Picked a bad day to quit sniffing glue:(
Always buy more safe than you think you need.
This is excellent advice.
As far as fire ratings go, unless you have some very valuable, unreplaceable pieces I wouldn't worry too much about it. That's what insurance is for. If you lose everything in a fire replacing those firearms is way down on your list of things to do.
I have a liberty, it works great and has a 60 min. rating, I went manual as opposed to a electric lock, I like the confidence of knowing my batteries wont be dead at the wrong moment. link below.

Get removable doors if it's an option. Safes are heavy. Mine will probably go with the house.

when seconds count....Manual locks can take a minute
I went electric, the battery is changed every 6 months whether it needs it or not
I have no concerns that I will not be able to get into it if needed.

This comment has merit. If your home is newer and built with TJIs, the engine crew will fight the fire from the outside, as this type of framing is prone to quick collapse once fire gets to it.

Large safes are for storing Imho not for defense, the gun vault next to my bed, strategically placed weapons throught the house as well as practicing are for that. If you have to run to your safe room it's to late already I believe.

Yeah, I only use my pistol to get me to my real Gun...

Yep, use the pistol to fight to the rifle.
Its been said once but I will say it again... Buy the biggest safe you can afford.

+1. That's where I bought mine. $599 for a 21 gun safe. It's a digital keypad lock though, which I don't really care for, but it works for my needs for now.
Definitely buy the largest safe you can the first time around... I thought I was going overboard with mine, but it filled up quickly when we started putting other things in it too, and there's no way you can fit 21 guns in it... maybe 21 pistols.
Murdocks is having a sale on the Liberty Fat Boy, not the Jr. Has a higher fire rating.

Make sure to get atleast 10ga steel. 12ga steel can be opend up with a fire axe.
Can't wait to get a new safe but I'm not getting it until I move back to Denver. I don't wanna move a 700lb safe..
I heard stackOns were top quality 3 second fire proof

How much did you save up? How did you know how much to save up, were you looking at one in particular?

I didn't care as much about the fire rating, because I have seen the aftermath of too many fires where the guns were destroyed anyways, either from heat or water. Fire is also covered without special limit under my insurance policy. I was way more concerned about theft, both because it puts my guns in bad hands, and it is subject to a low limit under my insurance. Having seen how easy a safe was to crack when my friend's moving company dropped his Liberty off the second floor stair landing, I don't think it matters so much as to what you buy vs. how you secure it. A decent quality safe bolted to the two corner walls and a floor is going to do a lot more than a more expensive safe that is just free-standing.
Having said the above, I'd buy the largest safe with 11 gauge or better sides I could find, regardless of fire rating.

Murdochs and Big R both usually have HUGE sales on their safes for Black Friday or leading up to it. Something to keep in mind, if you don't need it now and want to stretch your dollar further.

How much did you save up? How did you know how much to save up, were you looking at one in particular?
saved up about $4k. wasnt sure how much to have, so i was just guessing. not looking at any in particular, in fact i have no preferences. wanting the best all around for the money i have, or less so i can go buy other fun stuff.
$4k? honestly, go buy this one:
http://www.costco.com/Cannon-Safe-5940-Wide-Body-Firearm-Safe.product.11759401.html
$799.99
shipped to your curb.
30 min, electronic entry (my preference), one says 410 lbs, other says 475 lbs.
The amount of guns they tell you a safe can hold is typically BS, this safe will mostly hold long guns on the left side, probably about 15-18 of them depending on what you have. on the other side is good for shorter guns like 16" ARs, compact shotguns, AKs, etc. probably about 8-10 over there. then handguns, documents, cash, gold, silver, lowers, mags, ammo, whatever you can fit on to the shelves.
I doubt you will find the same amount of storage for anywhere near that price. unless you really want to drop some coin, this is about the best bang for your buck out there IMO.
here is one in black, and it is an updated ad and on sale through 11/4

No matter what safe you get I would consider getting some Rifle Rods. Besides letting me store more guns I find I can get to them easier and I bang them against each other less.
http://www.storemoreguns.com/rifle-rods-info
The Rifle Rods stick to the carpet fabric lining my safe so I didn't need to install the stuff under the shelf.
They list a dealer in Denver.
