I have just moved out of my county. Do I have to inform the new county Sheriff or the old county Sheriff of my re location?

You have 30 days by law to notify the sheriffs office of your change of address. Failure to do so is a crime and you can get in trouble. You will have to fill out a change of address form and turn it in to the sheriffs deptartment with in that 30 day time frame. I would contact both of them just to cover your butt.

Since every sheriffs department does things a little different I would call them and find out exactly what they want you to do.

No, now I am in Golden at my son's house. Moved from Elizabeth! Church was in Golden and we commuted for 14 years... enough already! Now I can commute to Georgetown!

Looking for a house on the west side of town. Can't afford Golden so nearby OK.

Much closer than Elizabeth!

call the issuing agency and find out what you have to do.

for Jeffco, you have to fill out the change of address form and bring it in. It's pretty simple. They'll get you a replacement card in 5-10 minutes.

See my post above "Colorado CCW Training Warning". The penalty for not reporting within the 30 day limit can be quite severe. I was over a year and a half before I discovered I should have reported my move. I went into the issuing Sheriff's office and threw myself at their mercy. They took pity on me and it was a non-event, but do it with the time period to avoid any anxiety.

Oops, wrong reference. In any case the Arapahoe Sheriff's office jokingly said they didn't have any room in the jail and they'd let me go on this one. They also said that I could renew through them since they had all the original paperwork and background check information. Incidently I moved from Littleton to Highlands Ranch in Douglass county and will have to renew next year. Time flies when you're having fun.

AFAIK, your permit stays at the place of issue. for example, I have mine through Jeffco, I've since lived in Arapahoe, Denver and back to Arapahoe. Everytime I had to go back to Jeffco to get the changes done. No big deal if you're in the area, but move to the other side of the state and it becomes a chore.

looks like i am going to file for a change of address before i even receive my permit.

That corroborates what the Arapahoe Sheriff's office told me - that I could renew with them - and that's good news because I think I would have had to start over at Douglass with the fingerprints and all the fees. BTW, there's no address on the permit issued by Arapahoe County so they didn't have to reissue a new one.

I am not understanding this. You must get your initial CCW from the sheriff in the county in which you live. However, if you move out of the county, the CCW permit stays in the original county until it expires. Then, when it come time to renew, you go to the original issuing county even if you don't live there any longer?

This would be great for me as I live in Weld (weld doesn't enter data into the database). I will (hopefully) moving into town to make the wife happy. So I can just keep getting CCW renewed in Weld???

I use to live in weld county, and now boulder county. I got my ccw at Weld. Only thing I had to do is send the papers(change of address) noterized to weld county sheriff's office.

You don't have to renew through the original issuing authority but you will have to start over with the fingerprints, original application fees, etc. Renewing though the original issuing authority costs only the much smaller renewal fee.

That is great news. I thought that one would have to renew where they lived.

Yes,

You are correct. I found it.

18-12-205(2) (a) An applicant shall complete the permit application form and return it, in person, to the sheriff of the county or city and county in which the applicant resides, to the sheriff of the county or city and county in which the applicant maintains a secondary residence or owns or leases real property used by the applicant in a business, or to the sheriff that previously issued a permit to the applicant.

18-12-211. Renewal of permits.
(1) Within one hundred twenty days prior to expiration of a permit, the permittee may obtain a renewal form from the issuing sheriff and renew the permit by submitting to the issuing sheriff a completed renewal form, a notarized affidavit stating that the permittee remains qualified pursuant to the criteria specified in section 18-12-203

Thanks guys. I guess I will always be able to have a weld permit :)
