View Full Version : Oh ya... BBQ'n with an Hk next to me...
So, I'm kinda gettin fed up with the bears here... The Bob Holder (local head ranger guy) said that if the bears that have decided to come visit my house on a nightly basis get trapped one more time, they will be destroyed... We had a decent talk a few nights back about them, and he is leaving it up to me on what I want to do. Apparently the mother and her cubs will go to sleepy time within a month and I won't have anything to worry about. Currently they are about 30 yards to the NW in a tree and around it. This is their normal spot I guess. These bears are the third set to visit my property. Our neighbors have a small field that runs along the side of my house about 15 yards by 50 long that has a few apple and peach trees on it, which is why they come by. The other neighbor's hound trees them almost every night from the other side of the fence (kinda funny).
Anyway, these guys are here every night now and they don't get the drift when I chase them with the car down the drive, shoot them with the airsoft, paintball guns, or anything else... Everything has been ok'd that I have been doing by the wild life officer. Well maybe not the car chasing, but I didn't hurt them... So, here I type getting ready to go back out and check my steak, with my Hk.....

Posted 4 minutes ago... how long does it take to check a steak? Should we be calling the emergency services? ;)
I like mine 5 mins on each side at 350 degrees

That's shoe leather! I take the chill out and let sit for 5 min to get the steak floating in the blood mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Ok I'm back... I took a couple pictures, but my camera doesn't do well in the dark... I had to alter the pictures a lot in able to get the bears to show up.

The bears are cool, but the important thing is how is the steak?

Your neighbors fruit trees? Maybe you should out your trash away
Try a few 12 ga bean bags

I live in the city so bags are out. My neighbors are also a statey and a cop, so nothing that goes bang is in. That can is empty, the one that we use is in the garage locked up. They just like to take a peek every now and then in that one.
Those look like a dog. Can't you get closer?

Lol, that sounds like a dare. I bet he COULD get closer, but he might have to take his steak with him and be ready to sacrifice it...
Why haven't you made a spear yet?

Camera angle, it's all about camera angle. The one in the trash can photo is mama. She's about 20 feet away from the can on our garage cement pad. The can is up against the aluminum rail that is on the far side from the garage under the two car, car port. The ranger says she's 450lbs (as they have trapped her before).

Id say complete fail. While having an HK of any caliber(IM sure yours is 45 ACP) is better then a sharp stick in the eye,
guess sharp claw in this case, I wouldnt want to go outside without
some more power behind my rounds Im about to send down range at
a momma with cubs. YMMV but damnit son, get something in the magnum caliber. [M2]
I've always wanted a bear skin rug... I'll be over next time you cook a steak... lol

An appropriate HK for bear repellent:

in 7.62x51 it should be adequate...

Bean bag rounds, rubber slugs and bear spray. If your neighbors have a problem with scaring a bear off using bean bag rounds or rubber slugs, start leaving bear bait around their house until they agree. :)

It doesn't sound like its so much of his neighbors have a problem with it, its that they're law enforcement and he lives within the city limits (which its illegal to discharge a firearm within city limits).
I'd think that attempting to painting a smily face on the side of a bear with a paintball gun should be great fun and entertainment for at least an hour, maybe less if the bear gets pissed off...

My little single shot (.50 BMG) would also work but it creates a little too much noise for inside town shooting. Also, would most likely pass through the poor ole bruin and then right through a few of your neighbors houses/vehicles.

RIGHT!! In this town on New Years eve, at the stroke of midnight, it sometimes sounds like a real battle zone. Almost need a steel umbrella to protect us from the rain of bullets falling from the sky - if you have the balls to venture outside.[Tooth]
