Followed by a loud rapping noise under the floorpan.
Driveshaft loops are a good thing.

My Dad told me a story about an Edsel he hot rodded back in the late 50s that pole vaulted when the drive shaft broke. With FWD you don't need to worry about that.

dam what else did it take with it how is the yoke on the tranny an the rear end Just shattered the B&M turbo 350 case.

What was this off of??1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass with a 388 stroker putting out 500 HP and 500 ft pounds of torque.

So . . . is there anything left of the rear tires?Yeah this did not happen while I was driving the car, so I am not sure how it happened. I was told this happened at 30 MPH, and just got hung up on the floor and exhaust.

Followed by a loud rapping noise under the floorpan.
Driveshaft loops are a good thing.Yes I am definitely getting a DS loop.

Yep, his car used that driveshaft for a pogo stick for a little while....It came out from the back, with the U-joint still on the yoke.

Please tell me you're not surprised. Why wold you do that anyways? Not really the thing makes 500 ft pounds of torque @ 4700 RPM, and 500 HP @ 5900 I knew something was going to give. I am just glad my rear diff is holding up, I just rebuilt it with bigger stronger parts.

Make you a deal Atrain-i have a TH400 that is drag race prepped. The gent I got it from was making a run when it started to slip. He grabbed a lower gear and blew the u joint, trashing the tailshaft housing and yoke. I have no idea of the internal condition.
Yours iffins you want it.
With that kind of torque you want the 400.

And it would be TQ that killed it. Having owned a G-body with over 400 lbs of TQ (up here) normal driving did not kill that. I also fully understand what it takes to transfer that to the ground in one. even with drag radials getting it hooked up is 1/2 the battle. A 30mph roll-on would never do this no matter what.

Someone tried to kill your car.

Heh, I did the same thing to the front driveshaft of a CJ-5 I owned... that was pushing about 450HP.

With that kind of torque you want the 400.I wish you would have said something before I purchased my new TH350, but I will keep you in mind as we do a lot of projects. I want to stay with a 350 in this car over a 400, I do not want the HP loss of the 400. The 350 I put in is rebuilt to handle 800 HP

looks like a neutral drop :D some sort of violent action twisted that up not a 30mph wot its just 500hp [Beer]It was not N-dropped just driven hard if anything. I may have started the problem a few days before I brought it up there. I power braked it to heat the tires, and loaded up to 3200 RPM and launched the car, feathering the gas to hook up and got it up to 93 MPH.

Yeah 30 MPH and you hammer it in that car you will be facing the other way on the street, just running street radials.

Someone tried to kill your car.No I would hope not, I just think it was ridden hard and put away wet.

I think somebody is giving you a line of BSThat is exactly what I am trying to figure out. Can a broken drive shaft @ 30 MPH cause all of this damage? The damaged shaft, shattered bell housing, and it ripped through my 3 inch exhaust system and floor, also destroyed one of my mufflers. I do not know if I started it and they finished it? Or if the guy that drove it just happened to hook it up?

did someone put it in reverse at 30mph? Or maybe the trans locked up.

Hey jerrymrc so what kind of G-bodies have you owned? I have always had an interest in these cars. I have driven F-bodies my whole life, I have just owned 3 G-bodies.
