Finally got around to zeroing it this afternoon.

I really wasn't looking forward to it, seeing as how brutal it was to shoot. It doesn't really hurt, it's just disorienting and feels like you've been punched somewhere in the head, but you're not sure where.

Last time out, the rings weren't tight enough, so within 2 shots the scope had moved forward about 1" in the rings. I got it all re-set, re tightened, loc-tite'd etc.

I was able to get it zeroed in with a few minor issues.

1. the set screws on the scope turrets shook loose.

2. The extractor decided it doesn't like to be in the gun. I found it, but it's now missing a spring or whatever retains it to the bolt face.

And I discovered that I REALLY need a shooting mat, or something.[ROFL1]

You obviously didn't ask the rest of us .50 owners what we learned.. [ROFL1]

That's because you don't have top-secret clearance to see the secure version of the boards yet. You wouldn't believe what gets posted behind the scenes...

You shall lose your access for mentioning the top secret section.. n00bs. [ROFL1]

So how bad is the recoil on a .50? Does it wear out the lower receiver at all?

I am done with 50 BMG.
I sold my last one after that "disorienting" feeling turned into a bad case of Vertigo.
The blast traveled through my sinuses and really screwed up my inner ear, I had to go to a specialist...

Not sure why, but this is one of the funniest things I have read in a while. Thanks for sharing.

A word to the wise...

Lots of people shoot 50s everyday and dont end up in the hospital or needing a specialist.

Precautions like earplugs and earmuffs, keeping you mouth closed, shooting mats for debris, ect. I do all that and add in some Motrin ahead of time.

Hopefully soon TBAC will have a 50 can out and while it will kick more, it will be easier on the ears/head.

A CAN and quality recoil pad and its rather fun firing the .50
I fired a 20mm rifle when I was in FL at my local range and even with its wicked brake it was not something I want to do again. They have a can for it but I am already short enough that I don't need to compress my spine shooting it.

I don't mean to be a party pooper, but I did all that and then some.
I owned several 50's, from uppers, to Barret 82, not exctly a niewbie, if I may.
Hopefully he will not have my same problems.
Enjoy, it sure was fun!
