View Full Version : holster help
So I got my new gen 3 FDE G19, and she is all pretty and I want to try and keep her that way lol. Do you guys know any good concealment holsters that do know wear out the guns finish? I have had bladetech before and they wear on the slide... I am even ok with a non concealment one since it is getting colder out, I can always conceal under coat. Any ideas?
one of those clippy things that go on the slide
That's a really good idea, I totally forgot about those. HAve you used them before?
Nope never i have tought about it though. dont have my CCW yet so never have needed it

Clipy things that go on the side are a bad idea for glocks.
Holsters and actually using pistols in any way is going to be hard on a finish.
Just Mexican carry, those clothed webbed belts with your gang sings as the belt buckles hold a gun just fine

Buy another G19 and put this one in the safe? As Hoser already said actually using them is going to put wear on them no matter what you do.
So you want the holster for a gun you are selling.
Maybe he had quick buyers remorse
Anything that touches your pistol is going to wear the finish.. wrap it up tightly in bubble wrap, put it in a box, put box in backpack and carry it that way.. then when you need it.. it's readily available AND the finish won't be marred.
I thought this new Glock finish was pretty tough. It would take a lot of pull outs and insertions.

This would be the best I can think of. However, as mentioned before, if you carry it then it will show some wear. If you want to keep it 100% then leave it in the safe.

Maybe try a Remora holster. They're pretty soft all over the inside, which may be what you're looking for.
The "Hybrid" Holsters are outstanding. Everybody and their brother is
making them now. They consist of a slab of leather against your body,
Riveted to that is a half of kydex holster. Also attached to the leather
are two hooks that clip onto the belt from the IWB position. I've had many
of these from different makers and all were good. The firearm is retained
by a dimple in the kydex right in front of the trigger, consequently, the
main drag is kydex against the polymer trigger guard. I've been wearing
my S&W M&P three days a week for the last year and i dont see any
appreciable wear. As i write this i am wearing one i got off of Evil Bay
for $40 and it has been my favorite IWB holster of all time.
Want to carry a gun + make a fashion statement by having the gun be pristine. Here is your best option.

For a Glock I would definitely stay away from a slide clip and go with something that covers the trigger guard. If you are sliding a glock in and out of your wasteband with nothing covering the trigger you are begging to shoot your dick off.

Take a look at this: THE ZACCHAEUS© CONCEALMENT HOLSTER (http://www.dalefrickeholsters.com/products.htm) You'll have to click on the "THE ZACCHAEUS© CONCEALMENT HOLSTER" link.

If you're going to be carrying the gun you should also be training with the gun. That means it's going to get used. That means (at some point) it will show use.
Maybe I'm nuts, but I take a certain amount of pride in my pistols that were purchased new an now show use. It means they aren't just filling space in my safe. [Beer]
Put some wear on the gun.
Whats the matter with you? Spyder and BP need to eat and finishing guns pays the bills [Beer]

I just got a brand new Glock and felt weird about it not being dirty or beat up. That's what makes a Glock a Glock. They work better dirty and dingy.
It would be like having "shiny new" hockey equipment...

^This! I'm not a collector, so I get them to shoot them!

Velvet jewelry bag, and do not take it out of your dresser drawer. Seriously, the UV here in CO at this elevation can wreak havoc on pistol finishes, I wouldn't dare let sunlight hit it, or the dry air we have here. A good humidifier will prolong the finish, along with that velvet bag.

I took a glock frame and sprayed 4 coats of Plasti-dip onto it to get a rubberized texture on the whole frame.
It held up pretty well and I am willing to bet it will stick to the slide -until you shoot it and it bubbles.
even when it bubbles- who cares. Peel it off and spray again. It peels off without leaving any residues.
this combined with the trigger guard cover holsters like the Raven Concealment Vanguard will have you in business for <$50.
i still think it is better to just beat it up a little and abandon ideas of protecting the finish.

Stop what you're doing. Throw your Glock on a gravel driveway and kick the hell out of it for five minutes on each side. Re-holster and worry about something else.
