View Full Version : A new Cabela's in my back yard?
Didja'll hear the news?! Cabela's has signed and committed to building a new 100,000 sq. ft. store at I-25 and Ridgegate Parkway in Lone Tree! It'll be on the SW corner, which will essentially be looking down onto Sky Ridge Medical Center. For those who don't know, this is just south of Park Meadows Mall, the next exit down from Lincoln, 2 down from C-470. Ridgegate Parkway turns into Mainstreet in Parker, so this will be 5 mi. from home for me. Woohoo!
There's been a lot of ground working going on there, been wondering WTF was going on. Guess they're building a big new shopping center or something. This will serve all of Northern Douglas County, Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch, and Centennial. Read it in the paper this morning. (Yes, I still read newspapers, leave me alone)

It's about time! Bass Pro Shops just doesn't do it for me.
Heard about this too. Now I have a place to go while the wife and kid are at IKEA.
Yep, also building another Bass Pro in the Springs
Been hearing about them moving into the Denver for a while now. I likes me some Cabela's.

I can't wait.
Anyone else think this is the final nail in the coffin for Gander Mountain in CO? I used to like that store but the Aurora location seems to have about 30% of the merchandise they used to carry.

They are starting utilities and other work at the 144th and I25 site. My parents live about 3 miles from one in Nebraska. I grew up with Cabelas having gone to the original tiny store in downtown Sydney several times. Can't wait to have one 5 miles from my house.
My brother is literally living at the one in Nebraska now, It will be good to have a more western sporting goods store in Denver. Basspro sucks with their saltwater flies and treestands. Their redhead brand is all made in china.
I'm excited for Cabelas down south here. BassPro is on the other side of the city from me, this will be much more convenient.
Hopefully they will have competitive ammo prices!

And at 130% of the prices of everyone else. I think that the Bass Pro in Loveland will whack the peepee of Sportsman's Warehouse, too.
I can't wait.

I've been to Gander a couple of times and walked out wondering why I wasted my time.
I'd like to see a couple of nails in the Bass Pro coffin. Been in there once and have no intention of ever going back.
I like them all, they are all great stores since they are sportsman oriented and not some pot smokin, tree huggin, REI MFers.
I'll just be happy to see some competition and hopefully lower prices![Beer]
I'm already getting gift cards set up. Got $250 headin my way![Tooth]
Hope they'll have reloading stuff there at reasonable prices. I have no prior experience with Cabelas.
whats worse is the store is close to work... which means i'll be there instead of at work!

yeah I won't be getting in guns there, that's for sure.
A lot of the stuff there is quite expensive, but I have a couple friends who are employees and ever now and then they do a friends and family discount![Tooth]
Herters bulk ammo is all to get excited over
What kind of stuff do they sell there?

Well I think it sucks Cabela's came to Colorado. Now I have to pay sales tax on all the otherwise screamin' online deals.

Freaking awesome! After they screwed Wheat Ridge over, they can put it in Highlands Ranch so they can get the traffic headache. Just what we need, another big box store that kills the small shops.

I heard it was the other way around. Wheat Ridge got greedy.
How many 100k square foot outdoor stores does this area need?

That is how I feel as well. The bargain cave is really the only place that I bother looking. They have sweet black Friday deals too.
I'll just be happy to have a place nearby to get reloading supplies. There ain't NOTHING around here that I know of.

I was told that Wheat Ridge dropped the ball on getting it built there. That was from someone that works for the city. Not sure either way but it would have been badass to have in Wheat Ridge. That piece of property they had for it over by Golden would have been a sick location!

This isn't Walmart, and while we could get into how, IMHO, it's not always just a Walmart presence that "kills" small shops - like their elitist attitudes, shitty service, and over priced crap had nothing to do with it - but I'd really rather not beat that particular dead horse so I'll just stick to the topic at hand.
What "small shops" in the Metro area carry even one fourth the outfitter, hunting, and fishing assortment either Cabela's or Bass Pro have? Please clue me in. I mean, I'm not going to stop buying tactical gear from the like's of Bower's or guns from my favorite LGS', I just don't see the vast majority and selection of merchandise these stores (Cabela's, Bass Pro) handled anywhere.
I like Sportsman's Warehouse, they have a pretty decent ammo selection, but fall short in many other areas, so I have to fall back to ordering online. However, Thornton is a haul for me, especially time-wise. Gander Mountain just plain sucks, Dicks's sucks more, and don't get me started on "Sports Authority" aka Gart's of days gone by, or the completely useless Big-5, or the overpriced and small outdoor clothing selection at Murdock's. Even Bass Pro is kinda meh on hunting clothes unless you like to buy their made-in-China Redhead crap.
I'd rather spend my dollars locally, and do so whenever possible. You guys whining about sales tax are the first to complain when your income, vehicle, property, or other taxes go up to support infrastructure. What's wrong with pumping a little money into the local economy? The oft high shipping costs buying online often offset any sales tax penalty. The store will bring jobs, and is a boost for local construction companies and their workers.
Is I-25 and Ridgegate Highlands Ranch? I was always under the impression HR ran east to Quebec, west to 85, and was bordered by 470 on the north and approximately what is now Ridgegate to the south. Has this area by annexed into HR?
BTW, it's reported to be 110,000 sq.ft. and 90,000 at the Thornton store. http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_20486022/cabelas-confirms-it-will-open-two-new-stores Honestly, I wonder what took them so long to penetrate this market.

The article I read and linked to called that area Lone Tree, and the Lone Tree po-po patrols that area.

It is indeed Lone Tree. May have been referred to as Highlands Ranch as more people seem to recognize and know where HR is vs Lone Tree.
