I guess I'll never understand why people think socialism is a good idea. History (and common sense) has proven that socialism doesn't work, yet we insist on instituting it here in America. All it does is make everybody poorer and less self sufficient.
Word related to socialism
Freeride, moral hazard, higher social marginal cost, inefficiency, etc.

I guess I'll never understand why people think socialism is a good idea
Who doesnt want free food? Who doesn't want free housing? Who doesnt want free healthcare? Who doesn't want free transportation?
The government will pay for it.
Its free stuff.
They dont realize it comes from their taxes. Someone has to pay for this stuff.

What's the alternative for the current situation? Let those kids starve? I'd like for my taxes not to have to go to pay for welfare, just like the rest of you, but I'm not willing to do so if kids have to go hungry.

I believe it was Ben Franklin who said that poverty should be painful. Reason being, there should be incentive to work hard and improve your lot in life.
I'm not one to let children starve, but when people who use welfare as a way of life because they're too lazy to work keep having kids because they have nothing better to do, something big needs to change.

Libs always come up with the darnest thing. They hold up their 'starving' kids while demanding free cell phones.

Local communities will come up with it. Neighbors take care of their neighbors. Communities take care of their less fortunate.
Nobody denies their is a need for the less fortunate.
We can take care of them without the government.
They might not have cellphones and flatpanels but they will be taken care of.
Whens the last time somebody starved to death in the U.S.A

Many kids on welfare are starving anyway because their parents don't use the funds appropriately. It is simply not the job of the government to provide things to people, which the people can provide themselves. I can't go out and purchase a firetruck and park it in front of my house (well, I could) but I sure can make a living enough to feed myself and my kid.
There are lots of things that are unfortunate in our society, but those things will exist to one extent or another, no matter what. It is my belief that with less handouts, there will be less "suffering." With no one around to support you, you'll find a way. Ask any parent who has kids that only go to school and live at home and don't have a job.

Socialism is great, till you run out of other peoples money.[Luck]

Either we like it or not, social welfare system will exist in any countries with capitalism. I've seen tons of countries with extremely low taxes, and they even have welfare system. One of the country that has lower income/corp taxes than we do actually have a better welfare system.
Maybe super rich, middle class, and welfare recipients would be all happy?
Socialism and welfare are not about helping people. They are about power.
The power to control poor people through vote buying, denial of opportunity, and the destruction of hope and ambition. Giving people something they did not earn over a long period of time destroys the human psyche.
The power to impose a failed idea on those who disagree with the socialists and Marxists in both major parties.
The power to impose onerous taxation on the "the rich" and the middle class in the name of helping the poor while destroying the middle class. The middle class bears the financial burden through the higher costs of goods and services.
The power to destroy the established system of volunteerism and its proponents. Since quite a bit of voluntary charity work and giving is done through religious organizations this is a direct attack on religion by the Marxists.

Good.
Now Trump needs to put his 5 million towards airtime for this. It would be a better use of the cash.

What ever happened to that offer ?
What ever happened to that offer ?
Obama made some jokes about it and it disappeared. And I think some people told trump he isn't helping with stupid shit like that. best thing is to vote him out and put him in the history books as the worst president ever, biggest spender with money he didn't have and a major player in the continued Socialism in America.

We should give more money to the central government so that they can have the states beg for it back to fund their education system. I bet that will solve the problem /sarcasm

I thought we had a child obesity problem in America? There are more than just two alternatives. Taking money by force from one person and giving some of that money to another is not charity. It's legalized plunder. Americans will take care of each other if we are just left the hell alone. And, for the sake of argument, if we didn't, is legalized plunder a better option? Which one is worse? If we have welfare, it must be at the state level, if not at a local level.

I don't want kids to starve either but how much of my hard work goes to this should be MY choice, not Joe Biden's, yours or Barack Obama's. Charity is just that -- charity -- NOT a "right" and it should be personal and private.

Maybe, just maybe, some of those kids wouldn't be starving if their parents got off their entitled butts and looked for work, no matter how detrimental it may seem to their precious self esteem.
Maybe those kids wouldn't be starving if their parents used the limited money they received for food and not 20" spinning rims on their cars that cost more than my daily work commute vehicle. (Heck, just a pair of those rims cost more than the value f my whole car)
Maybe those kids wouldn't be starving if I wasn't getting taxed so severely that I quit giving to true charities that provided food and essentials to families.
But hey, what do I know? I'm just some stupid sap who is susceptible to drug testing, required to take regular polygraphs, and doing everything else I can to keep the job that I do not enjoy so I can continue to make my own way in this world instead of having it handed to me for nothing.
