I was refinishing an old 22 and ran out of duracoat before finishing. I have ordered more, but what do I need to do to prep the coat that is on now?

Do I need to rough it up with sandpaper and go through the whole prep process again?

Any help is appreciated.

FYI! The prevail sprayer freaking sucks. Thats why 4 oz didn't get me throught the project.

If it sits more than a couple of hours you have to start all over again.

^^^ This..

To get off what you already have on and make your life easier use some laquer thinner. If it hasnt fully 'cured' it will come right off. If it cures you need to blast it or scuff it pretty well for the new stuff to ahere.

Use Duracoat clear to even out any sheen differences.

And yes cheap ass sprayers suck. When I do Duracoat I use a full-on Fuji HVLP system (think what you would paint a car with) - and then an airbrush for smaller/detail work.

Reblast it or sand it, that's all you can do.

Thanks guys. Duracoat website says 600 grit sandpaper to rough it up and you can go over top. Doesn't seem like I have to strip it completely.
