View Full Version : What the F is going on here!!!
I had my barrel swapped out a while ago and now after shooting it I've noticed that there is gas spewing out in the forward direction from the gas block. I've heard that a little can be expected, but this is crazy. I talked to a guy at the gun show today and he said it's probably a bent/cracked gas tube... possible, but it seems like it is squeezing out from under the gas block and from that hole in the gas block. Here are some pics for you're entertainment..

Tell us a touch about the gasblock.
What I am seeing is not typical, a little leakage is normal until it gets carboned up.a touch but it tends to vent more towards the rear.
It could be the gas tube got pinched during the swap.
Try another tube and see what happens.

Take it to BP he will square you away!
I thought the gas block was a DD (that's what the shop said) but now I'm thinking its just a YHM or something like that. The gun store I bought it from ended up screwing me over on a few things. As far as the tube goes, It may have been pinched or cracked in the exchange. I'll take it apart tomorrow and see if I can tell what happened. It that something that can be seen fairly easily?

If unable to se it, cover the gas port hole in the tube and blow or use low pressure air from the receiver side. You can place the port side with you finger covering the hole in a bowl of water, just like you would to check for a leak in a tire.
I checked the gas tube and it is not cracked or bent... I think its just coming out from the block. Now that I reassembled the rifle the tube is barely hitting the BCG when it comes forward. I've read that this can be a problem or it can have no effect.

Its pretty important to get the barrel nut and gas tube clocked right or you can have a lot of mystery issues, glad you seem to have it resolved. I have used MI and DD low-profile gas blocks without any issue, but its possible for any manufacturer to have an almost out of spec troublesome unit.
