I'll vote for whoever I think is the better candidate. You go ahead and vote on down that party line.

I think the confirmable number of deaths by legally owned NFA weapons, by the owner (as in, not stolen) is 2. No, I don't have the source.
According to Wikipedia (who knew?)
While NFA weapons as a whole are perceived by the American public as dangerous[citation needed], their use in crime is exceedingly rare. Legally-owned (ie, NFA-registered) machine guns have been used in only two murders since 1934, one of which was committed by a police officer.[9] A previous director of the ATF testified before Congress[citation needed] that fewer than ten registered machine guns (out of over 240,000 in the nation) have ever been used in any type of crime (including nonviolent offenses such as failing to notify ATF of address changes, etc.). The criminal use of other legally-owned NFA weapons is similarly rare. The Title II weapons used in prominent crimes, such the AK-47s used in the North Hollywood shootout of 1997, have universally been illegally-owned or illegally-converted weapons.

very interesting.
so now...if that because they are sooo hard to get? might be best to keep this info quiet or the antis will use it as a premise to use NFA regulations for all firearms....you know...to keep the guns out of the hands of the bad people.

I believe that no NFA weapon legally owned has ever been used in the commission of a crime by its owner...
There have been two murders committed with legally owned, NFA registered machine guns. One was a police officer that used a full auto M11 in .380 to kill a police informant, the other one. I don't remember the details of the other one other than it was in the early 90s in Ohio (actually I think both happened in Ohio ... what the hell's in the water there?).
The vast majority of crimes committed with NFA registered weapons are related to the improper possession and/or transfer of said weapons or the possession of narcotics along with an NFA weapon.
He [Obama] absolutely left the stage a victor tonight.
They both rambled and dodged questions and interrupted each other, but Romney did it in a more overt and offensive way.
I guess I saw some other debate because you have the names backward of what I saw.

I don't think this moved the needle either way. People will back their choice going in.

I can either vote for Obama or for Romney. voting for Johnson is a waste of time.
Voting for Obama is continuing the last 4 years, handing SCOTUS to the liberals on a silver platter, and now he mentions he wants to put in another AWB. while I believe the house will fight this off, I can see, given the economy, an amendment being added to a bill to re-enact at least a portion of it, possibly permanent.
I can also write myself it, but unless I see about 150,000,000 people doing the same, I'm not going to win, therefore my vote would be wasted, it quite possibly would only help Obama.
Do you really think trickle up economics is going to work. do you think obama taking money from high income earners is really going to put more money in your pocket? do you think that those same people, who are mostly businesses owners or those who run business, will not make up that money...inflation, increasing prices, which YOU will have to pay if you want their products. do you really think the .gov has your best interests in mind?
Since Johnson has NO CHANCE at winning, there is no point in bringing up his policies or ideas.
So you are left with a successful businessman, who has created jobs, made millions, donated millions, and has a plan, yet to be fully laid out, will not be proven unless things work out. He balanced the budget for businesses he ran, the state of MA, Olympics. He has the experience
So there really is no choice. We have seen what 4 years of obama has brought. has your life improved, are you putting more money into savings? are you cutting back or able to spend more? have you had to sell off guns to pay bills...I know I have seen some for sale...I know I have sold some to take care of things...like the birth of my son. Who only 3 years ago under my insurance would have been free...yet now it was over $1000.

I don't think either of them put many numbers or measurable facts out there tonight. Lots of anecdotal stories from Shitsville, OH. Romney saying again and again "Obama can't do that, but I can!" without ever actually explaining how.
The way they kept interrupting each other and walking all over the allotted time was a real turn off, as well.
Next debate should have them seated in plexiglass boxes and the moderator can cut off the mic when their 2 minutes is up.

I agree that another 4 years of Obama will, at the very best, stagnate our country.
But I feel the other option is a guy who made his millions by buying out companies and selling off their assets. A guy who also said that military style weapons don't belong in the hands of the citizenry, and was seen as a likable enough guy to lead a very liberal state. He has a plan, but refuses to tell us what it is. It's the same thing we were calling Obama out for back in 2008.
Fact is, the military can definitely afford some spending cuts. As can many other government agencies. And that the American people need to be willing to do more to help their country out. We ARE going the way of Greece. We are demanding that our government do more and more and tax us less and less. I think a simplified tax law could go a long way to take care of that.

We in Colorado are a battleground state. Johnson has no chance of taking Colorado nor ANY electoral votes from oblowme.

Thus a vote in Colorado for johnson is a vote for oblowme.

I wish Colorado would do a real primary rather than a caucus.
Agreed. Not only that but we should have a national day of primaries ... and all primaries should be closed.
No monkey wrenching the other party's primaries.
No early primary states reducing the number of candidates the late primary states are allowed to vote for.
I recommend the first Tuesday after the first Monday in February of an election year.

This is true (I count myself as one of those ... although I'm voting against 64, but for other reasons that I don't want to derail this thread with), but the majority of pro-legalization folk are left of center ... you know, a broken clock being right once a day and all that.

Agreed.
Even though we may have vast opinions on our politics we all have a common bond.
The jabs are leaning to the overly personal side (I am just as guilty at times).
We need to remember that we all do business with each other, trade with each other and share our sport.
We can agree to disagree but we are ALL better than that. If we are to disagree, let's do it in a mature manner.
We all learn from an intelligent discussion.

I'd like to point out that just because someone criticizes the Republican party, doesn't mean that they are voting for Johnson or Obama. If you are voting for Romney, then Romney is the only person you need to criticize. Not voting for Obama or Johnson is criticism enough, and there is no need for further discussion of their policies.
So when someone questions, or challenges something that your preferred candidate has done, said, or plans to do, you shouldn't respond as if they said, "I am voting for the other guy because..." unless they already have.
Those questions serve two purposes.
1) Gives you an opportunity to defend your decision by expressing WHY you have made that decision. This shows that there is a thought process behind your actions, and you aren't just doing it because you FEEL like it is the right thing to do, or don't know what else to do.
2) By being able to explain your position, this reinforces your own expectations of said candidate. You know what you expect, and if you are let down, you know exactly what to say to your guy in a letter to get him back on track.
OR...
You guys can just call everyone liberals, point fingers and declare people to be against you if they aren't with you, act like dicks, and fail, still, to actually address the concern.

MSM is writing this one down for obama. I see a couple screw ups on romneys part. and a couple big hits.
F&F was brought up, but so was the 47% issue.
The ambassador getting killed, and obamas response kind of blew up in Romneys face. Candy called him out on it on the spot.
Romney seems to start talking more about his plan. I'm not sure if he even knows what the full thing is yet or not, or just letting out enough to keep people interested but not too much for the obama campaign to find flaws and call him out on them...that is more than likely the case.
Foreign Policy will be interesting to see when that debate comes up. Obama has more experience in this one now...even though he had none in 08 when he won, but Romney has been around the block and knows what it going on, just not at the same level as Obama.

Both candidates pretending to answer the question for 11 seconds, then using the last 1:49 to talk about something unrelated that the other guy did, got pretty old, pretty quick. I'd much rather people actually stick to answering a question in two minutes, than trying to cram their pre-planned rhetoric over the top of dodging a question in that amount of time. If you debated like that in Forensics class, you'd lose every time.
I think that people are saying that Obama won because he really nailed it a few times, with what his proponents believe/want to hear.

Foreign policy debate will be interesting for one reason. I want to see who makes up what to try to differentiate themselves from the other.
Otherwise it is going to be like McCain and Obama debate on the economy. "I agree with him on that".
I would personally prefer a 3-5 question debate wherein candidates are required to show their work. A Bipartisan set of examples:
1. Obama says that gas prices were artificially low, and that was a contributing factor the the economic collapse. I have never seen any evidence to that point.... show your work in 10 minutes or less as to how the gas prices were a factor to the collapse and how either a) your policies WILL (not maybe) reduce them or B) how the value they are at now is the permanent stable value it needs to be!
2. Romney says that Obama policies have actually reduced/hindered domestic natural gas production. Most things I have seen suggest otherwise (one of the few things I believe he has done OK). Show your work in 10 minutes or less on how his polices have reduced natural gas output and how your polices can increase it!
Perhaps that's just the enginerd in me... but does anyone else agree? Show your work, make me understand how you will do it! Then I believe. I have to imagine there are others like me who are not blind faith voters (though the 2008 election might suggest otherwise).

I'm as data-driven as you are, and this would be a great format. Will it be open book? Can they use calculators? I think McCain is the only recent candidate who would be capable of using a slide-rule ;)

This is the most important thing that you've said. How can you realistically tell a nation that there is a lot of hard work to be done, and everyone needs to do their part, if you don't bother to explain what you are talking about and get everyone onto the same page? You want to convince a voter that your idea is the best one? Make sure you at least try and explain it enough that the voter can grasp the general idea. Heck, they don't even have to be able to explain it to their buddy the next day, just understand it as it is spoken to them. There is no point in preaching about banding together to tackle challenges if no one even knows what step number one is. Just throwing money at a candidate isn't banding together, and it isn't hard work.

If you wait a few seconds, red ink writes "^half of" in the middle of the "Believe in America" slogan. It's mildly funny, but every politician ever made doesn't explain economic plans to the public. It would take Romney a well organized, 8 hour class to explain to America the very broad, intro level, basics of what he was planning to do. No one would watch.

Frankly, I think a lot of people will give Obama the win in this debate simply because he exceeded their low expectations of him.
http://i.qkme.me/3rdj7d.jpg
Fact - There is no plan on either side that will effectively deal with the $16T deficit.
Fact - There is no plan on either side that addresses the looming $100T+ promise by the Federal government to social security, medicaid, and medicare recipients.
I don't see how Obama, with a straight face, can keep asking for facts from Romney for his economic plan, when in fact I clearly remember Pelosi telling us all that they had to pass the Obama Care bill BEFORE we would know any of the facts of what was in it..
Talk about the kettle calling the pot black...

Good, maybe the GOP will realize if they want votes they need to earn them by putting forth a viable candidate. If that means changing up the party then so be it but I'll be damned if I'm going to give them my vote by default. Romney is a joke & the best argument anyone can give me is Obama which isn't an argument for Romney at all.
