I need a new set of tires for the Kia and am trying to find the best price with mounting & balancing.

Here's what I'm looking for: Continental ExtremeContact DWS Ultra High Performance 225/45ZR18

I used to know a couple blokes that worked for Big O and another that worked at Discount Tire but they have since moved on.

Whatcha got?

If your looking to strictly buy local disregard this. Recently i needed new tires and shopped around quite a bit, come to find out it was actually cheaper to buy online and take them to a place to get them mounted/balanced. Might be different depending on the tire/shop/website etc. Just some personal experience if you wanted to save a buck.

I have purchased from both, they each have good deals, depending on what you're looking for.

General Motors has a tire price match program. (I work at a GM dealer). They will match the price of any store and yes, any online distributor as well!!! (matching of online store price includes what their shipping charge would be).

Pretty sweet unbeatable deal! GM sometimes also has rebates on tires. Rebates would be in addition to tire price matching. Double awesomeness whammy!

Let me know if any of ya' need tires. I'm in Fort Collins.

...and yes, free tire rotation and flat repair (no road hazard damage) is ALSO included in the purchase of tires!

I've been looking at this option. Will the shops that install them offer regular rotations or is that up to you to figure out?

I'm in the same boat Jer - I bought my last set from Sam's club, and went back in yesterday to see if they'd warranty them since I only got 40K out of a set of 70k Goodyears. Guy was a bit of a dick & basically told me the tire warranties are written so they can always find some reason not to warranty them. He basically told me to pound sand - a premise I think a smaller, perhaps locally owned shop would be less inclined to do.

Discount Tire on the south end of Ft. Collins seems to have some decent deals, but I've never dealt with them.

The easy way to explain tire warranty is.... The warranty on tires is a warranty on the construction of the tire. Warranty covers manufacturing defects only (belt slipping, tread separation, etc.). Warranty does NOT cover wear because so many outside influenced items (roads, lack of tire rotation, alignment, improper tire pressures, etc) affect tire wear. Those are not tire manufacturing defects.

I have some buddies at discount tire. Which location are you closest to? Are you willing to go to a different location if I don't know anyone there? Lmk

Depends on the shop, it varies. Here ive seen if it is a brand they sell, and they mount/balance them they will do rotations, others have a strict policy that it must be purchased directly from them, which unfortunately is usually the case.

Last time I bought tires I looked online found a great price and went in to Discount and they matched the price with free mounting and balancing. Came out way cheaper then the online store because I didn't have to pay shipping or mounting.

Interesting, do they have a price match program or something?

Not sure if it's a written policy. But the one in Parker matched what I found online and mounted/balanced for free. I didn't even go in there, my wife stopped by to check on prices and called me and I told the guy that this was the price I found and he matched it.

To the O.P., don't go with that brand/style. I have them on my wife's CR-V with less than 30 K miles and they are worn out and in dire need of replacement.

Thanks for tall the suggestions everyone.

snichols28: I may take you up on this because last we spoke you couldn't get this tire but if you can then this will likely be the best bet. We'll be in touch.

I've used them on four different vehicles now and they are easily the best overall year-round tire for this area that I've used. Great for winter driving, long tread life, low road noise, great handling in dry conditions and relatively affordable compared to the competition. I LOVE these tires and have recommended them to several people over the years and each person has come back to say that they also love them. As for your wife's CR-V... I don't what tire pressure, driving conditions or even if these tires are rated for something like a CR-V. All I know is they've been the best tires I personally have used on sedans.

They were on the CR-V off the dealer's lot, all the upper models had them.
Bought new in 2010 and now 29,643 miles on the odometer the tires need replacing badly.
Just looked, they are the Continental contact 4x4 type, there may be a difference.

That's why, new equipment tires are made of a different compound and are known to wear out MUCH faster than the same tires sold at tire stores later. The tires I'm replacing are new fitment with less than 20k miles to give you an idea and most people don't even get 15k miles out of these same tires on these same cars. Just an FYI on that topic.

As for the different types I can't speak to that either as I've only used the ones I listed specifically in different sizes. They rated really well in independent tests many years ago and after research I tried them out. They were amazing so whenever I need new tires on a sedan that's what I go with. Duratracs on trucks and these on cars.

Thanks for the link. He has a pair of the tires I need but there is no tread depth listed so I emailed him to ask if that means they're new. Hoping so because that price is too much for tires that have already been mounted.

Thanks for the tip man but this crazy vato snichols28 up here is my man if I'm buying new at retail. I'm really only interested in this pair of tires from the guy going out of business if it represents a decent savings over what Steve can do for me. Who knows, if Steve gets sideways with me I may have to talk to your guy. We'll see how it goes. [Tooth]

For anyone who was following this thread with any interest there is a new version of the DWS called the PureContact. It's slightly better in just about every way and with a warranty that goes from 50k to 70k it's a pretty impressive improvement on a tire that has already impressed me time and again. If you want more info here's a brief blurb here (http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/continental-tire-launches-the-purecontact-167884145.html). For those that don't know the DWS stands for Dry Wet and Snow. This I knew however one thing I learned today that I didn't know was that these three letters are actually cut into the shoulder blocks in the tread of the tire at different depths. As the Snow capability fades the S disappears from the tread. Likewise as the Wet capability fades the W fades from the tread. When the D for Dry fades you will be at the wear bars and it's time to replace the tires. I thought that was pretty cool myself. A little gimmicky but cool nonetheless.

Here's a pic:
http://blog.treadsource.com/Portals/127120/images/PureContactCutaway.jpg

For anyone needing tires (now is the time before the snow/ice moves in) get your best quote in writing and then contact snichols28 above. They will match any price you get from any other tire shop and hook you up with some bonuses (Steve is a caring lover) for giving you their business. He'll make it worth your time, believe you me.
