So with all the AWB talk with the debate and all .. I went to do a bit of research on the Mass. AWB.

Came across a fourm called northeastshooters.com

Man the hoops these guys have to jump thru just to get a license to buy a firearm are ridiculous..

I feel like wrapping my self in a Colorado flag when I crawl into bed tonight. (Yes I understand this is not proper flag etiquette.. give me some artistic license here)

Seems like even living in Denver is a treat in comparison.

For a state(or "commonwealth" as they like to call it ) that hosted the "shot heard round the world" seems like nowadays it would have to be a couple of pots clanking together.

Live free my friends and God Bless Colorado!

Speculation is fruitless, we won't know until the bill is presented and we can read it on Thomas.

Yup. In several northeastern states handguns are so strictly regulated that you need a pistol permit just to touch a handgun at a store, range, or gun show. If a licensed gun owner lets you fire his handgun at a range, and you do not have a permit, it is a crime. If a family member who is a licensed gun owner dies, and you do not immediately call the police to have them take away any handguns, that is a crime. Simply owning an unlicensed handgun in a locked safe in your own home is a crime. Private party sales must be made via a FFL transfer between licensed parties with registration.

The northeastern states HATE gun owners. They will charge you with a felony over the most minor statutory violation, with mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines. An unlicensed handgun -- even if it in your own home -- is automatic prison in most cases. And to top it off, good luck getting a pistol permit there. 2nd amendment does not apply where prohibited by law. This is deemed a "reasonable restriction" and is unlikely ever to be overturned. In fact, over the past 20 years the gun laws have gotten even more restrictive.

Even NC, further South, has some odd requirements: you have to get signed character statements from a number of people to get an OK to buy a pistol. Lived there, did it, not fun at all.

I gotta agree.

When I moved out here I couldn't believe the firearm freedom!

That's a real Liberty minded angle. Grand fathered in, afterwrds confiscated. The Elitist need the U.S. disarmed for their global government. Agenda 21 is here as we speak.

Massachusetts is a small state with more people than Colorado. As areas become more populated, gun laws become much more restrictive as seen in NYC etc. Ever see whats rats do when they become so caged and crowded there isn't much room to move? The .gov has to control the rats! We are lucky here...

Last I heard, in addition to an extensive background check, in NY you needed to provide 5 letters attesting to your good character which needed to be notarized, and then the Sheriff Department would contact each of your references before the final approval on your Pistol Permit application before it went before the judge . . . who could deny it without cause, with no oversight or appeal . . . and you are out about $200 in assorted fees. And even if you are approved, it can be revoked at any time without cause at the judge's whim. I have heard of several cases where a judge did this after a permit holder wrote a letter to the editor of a local newspaper griping about county politics. In NYC it is common for permit renewals to be denied for political reasons. All a judge need say is that he believes you are of "unfit character" and is not required to clarify this statement in any way. If you have a permit revoked you will need to turn over all your handguns or you'll be guilty of a felony.

As a transplant from Mass, and very active (still) on Northeastshooters, I still feel the pain of those "behind enemy lines"

The largest issue in Mass however is not the hoops you have to jump through. . . It's that every city has different "hoops". While you need a license to own a gun (any gun) issuing a license is at the SOLE DISCRETION of the chief of police in the city you reside. He may not like the car you drive...and you're not getting a license. He may not like your father from something in highschool, and you're not getting a license. He may just be an "anti" and you're not getting a license. There are cities/towns that have ZERO LTC's (license to carry) issued.

And there are other towns and chiefs that believe in the constitution that have no issues with people being armed. but You could live in a town that has given you a LTC, you've had it for 30 years and you move. The new chief can decide that you're "not suitable" and not renew it.

There are other issues too....like all "hi-caps" must be made pre AWB. Buy a new gun today, it has a 10 rnd mag, get caught with a "post ban" mag and it's a felony. oh, and you can't buy certain guns in state because the AG has determined that they are too dangerous. You can't buy a NEW glock (unless you're leo). Used glocks can be found a few ways...
1. made before 10/98
2. someone moves into the state with it...they can then do a Face to face transfer (only 4 allowed per year, and they are need to be residents with proper license and you fill out a form to send to the state- The Criminal history board of all agencies)
3. a cop buys a new one for an off duty gun and decides to transfer it, again it must be face to face because a dealer is prohibited from selling/transfering post 10/98 made

oh and used glock 26/27's are selling for $700

and the AWB still is in effect, the old no bayo lugs, 30 round mags must be pre awb, no folding stocks, etc

Now all that said, there is a VERY active and vocal gun community. I could drive to 10 gun ranges less than 30 minutes from my old home. There are 2 VERY active gun rights associations.
GOAL is the lobbists http://www.goal.org/goalnews.html
and Comm2A is the legal pitbull http://www.comm2a.org/

Once you get outside the "big Cities" of Boston/Cambridge/Worcester/Springfield (and their surrounding suburbs) you find "normal gun people". The big problem is that these city people keep electing the anti gun-give it too me free-please let me protect you from yourself politicians. and unfortunately the number of those people in the big city outnumber the number of "normal" people.

Which is why the state remains "Blue"

I lived "on and off" (mostly on) for 42 years....and in just the 2 I have lived here, I have noticed a shift here from purple to more blue. stay vigilant or it's just a matter of time here.

oh, I mentioned Comm2A above... I just want to give an example of the fighting they are doing.

They are currently looking for people that have been denied licenses by their Chief of police that are willing to be the plaintiff to file suit against the chief PERSONALLY. Comm2A will cover all legal fees, you just need the nuts to face your chief during and after
