So today i decided to take my trijicon to one of the local pawn shops just out of curiosity, so i show it to him and first off he had no idea what an ACOG was. So he takes his phone out to do some research.
Guy: Well looks like i can give you about $50.
Me: Excuse me?
Guy: Yeah looks like they are going for about $75, and the bid started off at $60.
Me: Wait bid? Are you looking on ebay?
Guy: Yeah see look (Shows me the phone)
Me: You are looking at a complete knock off, that is NOT a trijicon.
Guy: Yeah it is it says ACOG in the picture.
Me: Have a nice day.
What an idiot....$50 really?? It was all i could do to not break out laughing, i though he was fucking with me for a second.
Rant over. [Rant2][M2]
Yeah, that's a tad low, I'll give you $75 and drive to pick it up too...

Which pawn store did you go to? Was it called Pawn Stars?
Hell, if you can get some sucker to give you $150 for it you can go buy yourself two brand new ones. [Awesom]

No wasn't surprised too much, i know pawn shops are rip offs. I was surprised to hear him tell me a knock off price is what an authentic acog is worth, simply by going off an ebay item.
Well, if he knew the market price for every single item in the world , he would've be making $26mil/yr salary at GE as a CEO.
I've seen pawn shop people actually did search on some item prior to quoting.
However, this guy is an idiot who look at FAKECOG price and quote it on you off of ebay. Even ebay auction description will put "acog type/clone" on it.

Right? I've got it nailed now, I'll have a surplus of authentic trijicons by the end of the month at these insanely low prices they go for now!

You also have to look at the other end of that. There is always someone who expects a new price for their junk. Pawn shops dont stay in business by giving you an awesome deal.

The only thing dumber than pawn shop clerks are the customers who buy/borrow from them.
When I eS picking up a shotgun from pawn shop, there was a guyvwho wanted to pawn xd45 of and canon 10 mp camera.
Pawn offered him 300 for both, and he took the deal.
Imho, pawn shop was generous.

Pawnstars: I just came from Vegas, talked with a guy who was doing some gambling with Rick Harrison, they have gotten out of the pawn business. Making way more money selling t-shirts that say Chumlee on them.
The bad part about pawn shop is, they got to hold the inventory for x amount of days without interest ( some pawn shops) plus y amount days when interest starts to kick in.
So, they can make $$ after x days.
To make real $$, they got to hold onto the items for x+y days ( default).
The only thing dumber than pawn shop clerks are the customers who buy/borrow from them.
Really? That's quite a generalized statement.
I got a great deal on a set of under valued JBL speakers advertised on Craigslist from an Aurora pawn shop. FWIW, I've been collecting JBL gear for quite some time and know WTF I'm buying and what their value is when I do.
Well?? ...did you take the $50 for it or didn't you??

Yeah, sometimes even a blind squirrel gets lucky and finds a nut in a pawn shop. I scored an excellent 1947 Enfield No.5 Mk.1 Jungle Carbine in a pawn shop in Grand Junction for $150. I don't think they knew what it was. If you didn't know Enfields, it looks like something that some Bubba created in his garage by hacking up a surplus rifle. But this one is the real thing, they obviously didn't "call in an expert" to check it out.
It wasn't perfect, but certainly worth a helluva lot more than $150. Especially in a pawn shop. Missing the rear sight, which cost me about $30, and had the scope mounted, but that's it.

Geez yer dumb. [Tooth]
My experience: Pawn shops are the worst possible place to sell anything. Beavis behind the counter knew EXACTLY what he was doing, and hoped that you would either be ignorant or desperate enough to bite on it. It is not uncommon for them to offer to loan as little as 5% of the value of an expensive item, in hopes that they will be able to sell it for full price if the customer defaults. OTOH, I have bought a number of items in pawn shops for significantly less than market value because they had so little invested and I was able to haggle them down to a reasonable number.
Watched a guy walk in with a really nice smith 629 and wanted $200. They said I don't know I need to look this up.....really?

They may have felt this one could be rather HOT since the bearer wanted only $200 for it.
Maybe they were checking a "stolen firearms" list - (IF such a list exists).[Tooth]

Yup, I have picked up numerous precision/machinist tools for pennies on the dollar.
Like anything else, you just have to know the value of the item.
Remington 870 Express Magnum virtually unfired for $200.00 was a good score.

Speaking of idiots in pawn shops, I can't resist...
A few years ago I was in my buddy's pawn shop in the Springs, deciding whether or not to buy the Bersa 380 behind the counter. I must have looked like I was hoping to be irritated, because this porcine young "juggalo" success story oozes up next to me and proceeds to expound on the virtues of the gun. Namely that the one he had "was the one where you turn that little lever (gesturingly toward the safety) anf it switched to full auto". I would have expressed my unfathomable delight at his choosing to impart that little tidbit of wisdom, but I didn't want to run off a potential customer for my buddy. So I smiled and said, "I know! That's why I'm buying it!" and left.

Yeah, I know, right? I mean, just look at that classy sling! I took the scope off but I intend to put it back on just for shits & grins. Since it's already D&T'd for it, no harm in putting it back on just to see how it shoots. I bet it was a dandy little deer rifle for the previous owner.
