So I decided to dig this ol' girl out of the safe and clean 'er up and noticed the split @ the 8 o'clock position to the firing pin. It's the only Beretta I've owned and it's been close to 5yrs since its been out of the safe so I have no clue...

That is how it is supposed to be. I forget why it is there but it is supposed to be like that. It is not cracked.

Part of the machining process, I have had a few folks with the same inquiry.
Normal.

Normal. Saw lots of this when I was running OSI weapons programs when we had M9s. The two areas I looked at regularly on our M9s were cracks in the slide where the lock block wings move and the cracks where the wings are attached to the lock block. Wing cracks are a visual thing, but I would occasionally take the slides after field stripping and hang them on a wire hook and tap the slide with the elbow of a allen wrench. If it rang like a tuning fork, it was fine. If it mad a tonk sound, I took it to CATM to have the guys check it out. Found more than one that made a tonk sound.

Thanks gents! I've had it around a while and it's been put through its paces but I wouldn't imagine enough so to cause any damage. It has around 5-6k down the pipe and its the very first handgun I fired so its a bit more valuable to me than your average Beretta.
