Yes, but easier to do on a 20 rd. I have an aftermarket AR 5 rd mag if you need one.

I gotta wait on my 300 blackout upper to get here first. I may have to get two of the metal 5 rds from sportsmans worst case. I just think they look a little silly in an AR platform

Who cares what they look like as long as you are legal. You're hunting not in a beauty contest.

Magpul sells 5 round inserts to put in 20 round mags. I found that you have to put 4 in the mag, chamber the round and top off the mag. So the mag holds 4 and the chamber has one. Keeps you leagl for hunting by not allowing 5 in the mag and 1 in the chamber. Bowers has/had them.

Ever heard the saying you play how you practice? Go big or go home... I am rocking full blown gillies suits, and night vision optics, tactical lasers etc. J / k.!

I've been using the factory blocked Lancer 4/5 round (adjustable) mags with great success

I just did for my LR308 pmag with a disassembled bic pen. Not sure if it'll work on the ar15 pmags though (might be too much curve on the mag). Under the base plate there is the piece that the mag spring connects to. On that plate there is a little hole in the center where that spring connects... perfect size for the little plug that goes in the butt end of a bic pen. Push it through the bottom of that plate, then put just the tube part of the bic pen on the top side inside the spring. Had to cut off maybe 1/4" of the pen tube and heat and form the end a little bit to tighten it up on the plug.
Free bic pen + $18 for a 20rd mag vs $40 for a 4rd mag... yes I take pens from the bank, that's what they get for not putting a chain on it

May want to add a little super glue on the pen as well. That should make sure it stays put with recoil.

I prefer the short 5 round mags (or even the 10 round mags for coyotes). They might not look right, but the 30 round mags can get in the way when bench shooting, or shooting from a makeshift rest.
