I got a traffic ticket for wreckless driving in June and was given 12 months of unsupervised probation along with my fine. Is this going to effect my ability to get my CHL? It's the only thing on my record.

Thanks

not in weld county, it shouldn't. i had a form 4 sign off from him even with a few points on my DL.

your unsupervised prob means IF you get another ticket within 12 months they will hit you for the full points on your first one as well

Yeah, I knew the unsupervised probation was given just so that they could put it to me in the event that I screw up again.

Would you advise against calling the Sheriff's office to see if they could give me an idea of what my chances are? I'd rather not spend the $120 only to find out that I can't get it.

Whats the rest of your DR look like? if your not a habitual driving offender you should be fine. Normally Road Rage and several DUI's are what will eliminate your ability to acquire a CCW.

You are good to go that is a traffic violation it does not count. As far as DUI's go if you have had two in the last five years your screwed.

That's the only thing on my DR. Here's another possible issue, part of my plea bargain was that I had to take a Level III traffic course with NCTI. The title of the course is Road Rage.

I wasn't charged with anything road rage related but the judge in Larimer County decided to stick it to me.

I'll go ahead and submit paperwork when I get paid on Friday and we'll see what happens.

good luck! what about a DUI? My friend got a DUI about a year ago, and hes worried that he cannot buy a firearm.

They shouldn't be problems. In Colorado, DUI and Reckless Driving are both misdemeanors. Unless the driver had been revoked as a Habitual Traffic Offender when he was caught, that is.

ETA: I've heard of places in other states where anti-gun sheriffs used a DUI history to claim that an applicant was a "habitual drunkard" or whatever the wording is on the 4473, but I've never heard of such a thing here. Not even in Denver, and you just know they would have tried it if they thought it might fly.

Actually, the packet that you receive with your application indicates that multiple DUI offenses will keep you from receiving the permit.

8 weeks and one day later and I have my permit.

Turns out the unsupervised probation didn't prohibit me from attaining the permit.

Grats.

8 weeks? is that common in your county? In El paso mine took 10 days.

Took the full 90 days in Arapahoe.. then again they've only got one guy processing applications and he runs about 200 a week... hmm might indicate that Arapahoe county is well armed :)

200 a week? Wow pretty awesome.
