You can distill your own spirits if the quantity is under a certain amount and no intent to sell right?

I still don't know the answer and haven't researched the idea myself.
As stated by some in this thread and the previous thread it is illegal.

S3: I've seen ads for home distilling equipment in catalogs ("turn wine into brandy," "make your own essential oils"). Is it legal to buy and use a still like that?

Under Federal rules administered by TTB, it depends on how you use the still. You may not produce alcohol with these stills unless you qualify as a distilled spirits plant (see earlier question). However, owning a small still and using it for other purposes is allowed. You should also check with your State and local authorities - their rules may differ.

No. You may not distill your own spirits - even if it is for your own consuption - unless you pay the tax man and do the paperwork. People get the law confused with beer making all the time and people go to big boy pound me in the arse prison for it.
This is not something you want to fuck with.
Now if you are making ethanol for machine fuel then thats a different story.

Note that they watch people making their own fuel very closely, so don't think you can get away with making some personal consumption hooch and pretending its fuel when the revenuer shows up.

If you have a jar with a dead frog in it and drink it too, they will not complain. The frog died for your sins...[ROFL1]

Not quite.

You can ferment for your home use without license, tax, or paperwork. In Colorado, I think you can go up to 100 gallons of beer or wine per year.

Distillation requires a license no matter how little you make or who ends up drinking it.

I researched this a while back. Not legal unless you get a licence, etc. Too bad. I thought it would be fun to make some whiskey.
There is an outfit in Denver that sells stills and equip, but I guess those are only used for making distilled water. [Tooth]
