We went out to Salt lake city for our annual get a new leg trip. Shriners hook him up every year with a new prosthetic. They use to sublet it out and have it made here but times are tuff so we have to go out there now. My boy (8 yrs old) grabbed my camera and just shot these pics. The top part is carbon fiber and then they cover it with any cloth material you want. They couldn't find any Calvin and Hobs material so my wife painted this on some cloth and had the doctors put it on the prosthetic leg. http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/4gunfun/DSC02954.jpg http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/4gunfun/DSC02952.jpg http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/4gunfun/DSC02951.jpg http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/4gunfun/DSC02953.jpg http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/4gunfun/DSC02956.jpg

Your wife is quite the artist.
Is the leg adjustable within the year for growth spurts?

I appreciate you for sharing your Son's story!!!!
Hope all is well!!

If you don't mind, I grew up with a neighbor who was born with a
genetic deformity that doctors had to take most of his left foot.
He is in his mid 20s now and he has a normal life we all have just
with a prosthetic, I'd like to hear your Son's story. You can pm and I will keep
our convo between us, if not I understand and still wish him all the best!!!!

Yes the bottom metal part is changable. But the top part gets too short every year as he grows. He broke the big toe off of the last one. It was looking pretty bad.
Your wife is quite the artist.

He was born with Fibular hemimelia, a birth defect. Only had 3 toes and the ankle was all messed up on that left foot. So when he was 2 years old we had to make a tough decision and had his foot amputated. It worked out very well and he does everything the other kids do. They tool it off right below the ankle and attached the heel bone to the bottom of leg bone. It feels and looks just like our heels with the skin and cushion. He can hobble along without his leg at the swimming pool or to get up and go pee at night. It will continue to get shorter as he gets older but that is a good thing. He needs more room for better ankle parts.

With all the advances in technology, it'll only get better for him! Shriner's do good work. Ever thought about being one?

He is a handful. Way more stubborn than my first three. He learned how to swim this summer. And when he jumps off his bunk bed I still cringe.

+1 to the above
I think it makes it all that more special that "Mom Painted it" instead of store bought.

Very cool! I also think it is even better that Mom painted the design.

Jumps off the bunk bed!!!! Ha, obviously he is less handicapped than you think, Your son is awesome, [Beer]

Calvin was always my favorite comic strip. Does he have the three volume set? They have the entire series in three hard bound books. My wife bought them for me, but my kids love them.
