That's what engravers do...

They also engrave glass, plastic, leather, wood and just about anything, including diamonds. A few years ago there was someone at the Tanners shows that did custom laser engraving. They only engraved wood stocks.
I guess I'll call give Colorado Gun Writes a call to see if they can do the engraving I need.

laser engraves everything, just the power needs to be adjusted according to a density of the material

^This is my understanding as well. I'm not sure why the custom engraver from Tanner in the past, did wood stocks only. Maybe they're easier to repair if a mistake is made?
Thanks for for the info. One step closer to the SBR[AR15]

Weren't there today, at least I couldn't find them

They were there yesterday. Saw 'em engraving knives. Laser makes an annoying high pitch noise like a CRT TV, heard it before I saw it.

They were there today as well, but it has been my understanding that the depth of laser engraving was insufficient to meet NFA requirements. He said he does work for form 1's however. On a side note his website is just about useless.

Shameless self plug...
If any of you guys are interested in old school engraving, please let me know. I cut members of this site really nice deals.
Thanks!

The new website is up and running, complete with pics of his work and contact info. He also has a Facebook page now -> http://www.facebook.com/ColoradoGunWrites. I think you'll see a marked improvement over what was there before.
For the record, you were right at the time you posted this, the website wasn't up to par...until late last month when he asked me to build him one. I'm just a friend of his with HTML skills, not a professional web designer, so I'm not plugging any business.

I always thought Laser Engraving went deeper. Etching was what didn't meet NFA Requirements.

Guess it all depends if they are etching the Aluminum, or actually engraving it with a laser.

It can also depend on the type of laser machine being used, it might have been a yag laser if it sounded like this

This type of laser (yag) can sometimes get depth if it has enough power.
Or a co2 laser, looks like this when engraving,

A co2 laser cannot get depth on metal.
I was a vendor at tanner for a short bit, but didn't bring any of our lasers. What type was at the show? I'm curious!
Meeting NFA requirements requires either a powerful yag laser (usually multiple passes) or rotary engraving.
Hope that is helpful info!
Yeah, I saw it too. The guy running the business is Troy Teepen. He's a friend of Bob Swainson's. I've also known Troy for years, good dude. I saw him putting a kick ass engraving on the side of a non-windowed P-Mag and it looked bad ass. He was charging $5 per engraving.

I won't try to pretend I understand the engraving part of his business. I'm just his web bitch so I stick to the website and Facebook stuff. But Squeeze is right, Troy is good people. I was the bassist in his band for years. He's a staunch supporter of of our 2A rights and really wants his customers to be happy with the work he does for them.
