Those of you that talk about standardizing calibers, how many calibers do you keep on hand in quanity? 5 seems to be my lower limit. 1. Rimfire 2. Hunting rifle 3. Self defense pistol 4. Shotgun 5. Zombie round (aka .223)

Mmmm I prefer to keep weapons around in "standard" ie easily obtained calbers- .45 ACP, .38/.357, 9mm, .223, 308, 12ga, .22LR, because pretty much every store that sells anything for guns will have those calibers in stock, esp the pistol calibers. Having a spread of popular calibers means that if I cant find 9mm, I can likely find .38 or .45...
I keep .223, .45, .338 lapua mag, and 50.

I keep 9mm, 12ga and .22LR right now. All easily found, hoping to expand on that sooner than later.

9mm, 40 S&W, 45acp, 45lc, 5.56, 308, 7.62x39, 5.45x39, 20 & 12 ga.
38 super, 30 carbine, and 30-06 are our 'luxury' rounds.

For the longest time, I vowed to only buy guns in calibers I could easily find in Walmart. Most of my handguns are in 9mm or 45. A couple revolvers in .357, .38, and .44. Some .22s, and a bunch of ARs, all in .223/5.56. An assortment of 12 gauge shotguns, and a couple rifles in .308.
The only time I have deviated from this philosophy thus far is when I bought a 10mm Glock 20. I have been tempted by the 5.7, but hate that there is only one source of ammo. I have also been tempted by the 50AE, but I have always come up with better uses for the money.

This to me is an ideal standardisation.
If need be, pick just one either .45 ACP or .357 Magnum [M2]

I only keep SAAMI standard calibers on hand.
I tried standardizing calibers a few times, but then I see something new and screw everything up. Decided I was only going to have pistols and carbines that chambered 9mm, but changed my mind after a couple of years.

Another vote for .22lr, 9mm, and 5.56
I don't really "stock" 12ga, but I have about 100 shells of 00 buck.
When I get a bolt action .308, I will begin stocking that as well.
I havent played this game here before...
22lr, .40 S&W, 12 ga, 5.56/.223, 7.62x39, 7.62x54r.
9mm conversion parts for Glock, but only have a box or two of rounds.
I've been thinking about ditching the commie calibers and picking up .308 or learning to reload 300 BLK.
5.56x45, 7.62x51, 22LR, 9mm and 45ACP

I let SAAMI do the standardization. I usually just buy what I like with the exception of shotgun...12 ga only.
I have three .22 short, LR and WMR, so I even leave the dock on the rimfire set-up.

No standard ammo other than 20ga, 12 ga, .22LR, 9mm, .32ACP, 5.56 NATO, 7.62x39, .30-06, .38spc/.357, .44spc/.44 mag, .45ACP.
Then I get whatever ammo I need for the guns I have. If I trade that gun, I will either throw in the ammo with the deal or hang on to it for the next gun in that caliber or gauge I acquire. As an example, I have a lot of 7.62x39 but at present I have no arms that handle that caliber. When I acquire another Mini 30 or SKS I will have ammo for it.
For guns that I will be keeping for I stock pile the best ammo I can get for the price plus lots of inexpensive practice ammo.
I suppose if I had to pick a minimum I would go with readily available ammo in military calibers like .22LR, 12 ga, 5.56 and 9mm as it would most likely be the easiest to get.

.45 ACP, .38/.357mag, .22lr,12ga,.223,.300WM and .30-06. Figure I can find some if not all of those close by if I run out of my supplies.. Still thinking AR in .308 or another M1-A though.
Good topic.

Those that keep .308/7.62x51, do you keep it for hunting or for more zombie stopping power?

I think I've managed to stockpile all standard calibers. That was the question, right? But if I can only have or grab one, I agree with Jim. 22lr will do most anything & a lot of it will weigh less & take up little space.

.22LR Uhh.. I lost count

.38/.357 Plenty..
.40 Uhh lost count
.45.. uhhh.. A lot.
.223/5.56 More than enough (all my rifles are chambered 5.56)
12ga - could use more
.50BMG.. not exactly a portable rifle.. so mainly just enough rounds to keep me smiling when I actually get to shoot it..

I've seriously thought about going all 22 except hunting guns. But I love reloading too.
When I was young I only kept ordinary cartridges. Now I have more disposable income and even reload for other folks in calibers I don't have guns for.

I paired down and swore no new ones about 6 years ago. That said I just started 300BLK but since I already loaded and stocked components it only required a set of dies.

7.62x39 , 7.62x54R (also gain commonality of suppressors with those two) , 12ga, 22lr and .40. (Have the glock 22 with the wolf 9mm conversion barrel and the 357 sig barrel, incase I come upon those calibers)

Because you're special.
I sold my 40 S&W to just have 9mm and 45 acp in handguns, but I want the wife to carry a 357/38 revolver. I have a 5.56, 12 ga. Will buy guns in 308 and 22 lr.

staying within my chosen standardized calibers keeps me in check as there are a lot of other guns out there that I would like but are not in the realm.
Also have dillon dies for 9mm,45acp,.223,.308 and stocking up on components next week.

I don't standardize. Just don't have much ammo for most calibers. Just bought a Takarev even though all the surplus is gone. Would get into some other calibers if had the money to buy the firearms.
