So, I've always been a little skeptical of the Mora knives. I don't do well with 'cheap'. I'm more of a 'cry once' guy. Anyway, Mora just came out with some new knives with thicker blades, the heavy duty (HD) knives. I bought one of each, there are three. The two basic ones are under $20 and the third is about $40 and has a basic black coating on the carbon blade. The other two are also carbon blades and a little shorter, about 4". I got them for my kids to use when we camp. I have them practice bushcraft techniques; batoning, whittling instruments, starting fires without matches or a lighter... Next camping trip will be working on basic snare designs and they will need better knives than what they have. I was hoping these would fit the bill.

Well, these are the nicest fricken $20 knives I've seen, and the $40 knife is even better. For the price, they can beat the living hell out of them and learn with them, and I think they will be hard pressed to break them. They are NOT an ESEE or equivalently made knife, but after just an initial overlook, they are going to work fine. The sheaths are just molded plastic but these are for kids and I'm sure they won't be treated like a Blind Horse, Turley, or Russell, so that's ok.

These are x-mas presents, so I haven't taken any pics of them, but when I do I'll try to post them here.

Mora knives have always been a good quality knife for their price. They make a
great beater knife that can be replaced without breaking the bank.
Looking forward to pics of these new models [Beer]

Are they American made? Probly a dumb question but I never trust a knife with china on it

I believe they are made in Sweden.

I keep one in my tackle box.

Mora knives are awesome. They're ugly, and the sheaths are nothing special, but they'll shrug off a beating and keep going. Check out YouTube, or watch a couple episodes of Dual Survival, to see the abuse that Cody Lundin puts them through.

I keep a Clipper (predecessor to the Companion) in each car, and it's my go-to camping knife.

Your kids are getting tools they can be proud of.

Yep. One of each of the top three, and that's the site I got them from. He said they would be in on the 25th, and I got them on the 27th. Can't beat that with a stick.

I also have a bunch of Mora Clippers running around my kits, gloves boxes, etc. Love 'em. Easy to sharpen. Doesn't hurt if you trash/lose them.

I have never heard anyone speak ill of Mora knives. Funny thing is I have never owned one, though I was tempted when the mora 2000 came out with cool sheath.

I would agree with this statement. A very no frills knife with quite a reputation with survivalists for being inexpensive and well made. Nothing to look at but gets the job done. Worth the money to have in your BOB.

Ugh... Damn it. Now I'm going to have to order one of the thin bladed ones so I can compare them. "I gotsta know." (And they're cheap enough to have some spares [Coffee])
