View Full Version : Respect
Respect. Something in short supply these days.
Lord, keep these gentlemen safe.

Nothing makes you feel more proud................................
I saw this on another forum earlier this AM. That is one picture that truly is worth a million words. It makes me very proud and appreciate.
Great honor and respect for these men.
Those guys are badasses... We had a DS in Basic when I went through who was old guard and worked right along side the Tomb Guards- but wasn't one- so few actually make it... They would get stung, rained on, whatever, and had to maintain a discipline I don't think is possible for 99.999% of the population. [Beer] Keep 'em safe during this storm!
Respect is right! What an incredible example of sacrifice and dedication. I've just shared the yahoo article on Facebook for others to see.

Bless them all.
God bless those guys. That takes a level of dedication and discipline that is slowly phasing out of our society, generation by generation.

Just moved back to Colorado from DC where I served as a DoD firefighter. We got the TREMENDOUS honor of going on tour through the changing quarters, followed by watching the guard changing ceremony. Some worthless asshat next to me had his phone ringing like crazy, then he ANSWERED it during the changeover. The Sentinel who was waiting to takeover the watch ripped him a new one......I was praying he'd come over and butt stroke the guys face!
THE SENTINELS CREED
My dedication to this sacred duty
is total and whole-hearted.
In the responsibility bestowed on me
never will I falter.
And with dignity and perseverance
my standard will remain perfection.
Through the years of diligence and praise
and the discomfort of the elements,
I will walk my tour in humble reverence
to the best of my ability.
It is he who commands the respect I protect,
his bravery that made us so proud.
Surrounded by well meaning crowds by day,
alone in the thoughtful peace of night,
this soldier will in honored glory rest
under my eternal vigilance.

Man, I wish it was only "slowly fading out"... that would be an improvement in and of itself. I think it's pretty much entirely gone already. Except for only the most honorable of servicemen, such as these.

CINC needs to order the guards to a shelter. This is an EMERGENCY.

Hats off to all of them!

If the storm is as bad as predicted, they'll head for shelter if needed.

They will not quit their post. DC has had plenty of inclement weather and the Guard never leaves, NEVER!

I remember other instances like this where they wouldn't leave. Now that is military discipline!

Much respect for these men.
2. To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing.
I had the chance to visit DC last time I was out that way. I'd never seen Arlington, so that was my first stop. This should be on your bucket list if you've never been there; it is really something to see.

I've seen photos of the guards when I visited Fort Myers with 4-6" on snow on top of their brimmed hats. True dedication.
