No...I'm not talking about fruit here lol.

Lookin at Esstac Mag pouches for the new kit Im building and I'm looking to get some advice.

I believe in good, quality made reliable gear just as much as the next guy, but some things or "enhancements" I dont believe in paying double the price for.

It's remarkable the different in price between the mag pouches with Kydex Wedge Inserts (KYWI) and without.

What's your take on the Kydex Wedge Inserts? Worth the extra money? Do they make a significant difference when operating at speed or under stress? Do they add too much thickness or weight to your kit?

Discuss...

I have a few of the Esstac pouches and I like them. They work great for quick draws and I can replace a mag very fast also. I hate hook and loop so I have done away with most all of my hook and loop pouches, I only have a smoke pouch mounted up side down left on my rig. I like the ITW fastmags but they are a bit chunky for me. I have found that I like the feel and comfort of nylon but the hold of plastics. My holster is the HSGI drop leg that my Safariland level 2 fit in so I have the best of both worlds. The same priciple works for the KYWI, plastic on the inside and nylon on the outside.

$40 for one to try out and determine if its an upgrade and expense that might save your life sounds worth it to me. I also hate Velcro flaps on my mag pouches and went with nylon open top pouches my last tour. These weren't available. If they were I would have bought one and tested them. I take reloads serious. If they are better the cost is still reasonable enough to be worth it.

Seems like it'd be relatively easy to fashion some sort of clip around the outside of the mag that would provide the needed tension.
