View Full Version : AR-10 Picture Thread
Just because I wanted to be the first to do it. Post your weapon plus components if you want. I know when I was researching my builds, members' pictures helped me put together the look I wanted.
Although not an Armalite, here is my build.
*sold*
Mine isn't done yet but I'll toss up a picture anyways. Some of the parts are just temporary until I get her all together and dialed in and then I'll do some upgrades.
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m98/rjs1970/photo-25.jpg
Here's what I have so far...
CMMG upper and lower
DPMS lower parts kit
DPMS SASS barrel- 18", mid-length gas system, fluted, heavy barrel
JP Enterprises Bennie Cooley compensator
DPMS aluminum free-float tube
Magpul MOE grip
Magpul MOE rifle stock
Still to come...
Buffer and spring
Bolt carrier assembly
Scope mount
Scope
Bi-pod
After I get it dialed in I will replace the stock with a Magpul PRS in OD green. I might also upgrade the forearm but I haven't decided what I'll go with yet.
Mine has changed a little since doing these pics. Changed the AFG 2 to an AFG, added a "Skull" tat to the stock, Gear sector QD mount to the front and removed the two side rails up front.
Sold this beauty to pastures of the same color but different cut...............................

Epiphany
2. an appearance or manifestation, especially of a deity.
3. a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/insight) into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated by some simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience.
SO either Ray is a deity or his comment opened my perception...... technically I will have to argue with your statement MONKY and say the definition is very open there. Ray's comment ignited my sudden perception and I had an "epiphany"..............

Honestly, I haven't benchrest shot it. POF site shows target paper w/ sub moa groups here (http://www.pof-usa.net/pdf_files/p30814shotgroupRP.pdf). I am happy w/ 6" group on the cheap bipod and glass. [M2]

It is a nice balance of size and power, you going to keep that scope or go for something smaller? is that PDF something specific to your POF build or just in general for the 14.5 model?
Damn that sign looks like a beast. I was at dragonmans and the Guy in the range next to me had one that would not cycle properly

Mine had to go back to Sig for a do-over. Eats everything I've tried now except old Greek M80 ball. No steel case for me thanks.
They:
"Polished the chamber"
"cleaned up the front gas port"
Got a free trigger job that turned it from worst, grittiest ever to pretty damn nice for a battle rifle.
Here is my Beast. It started life as a 18 inch LaRue OBR in 308.
I rebarreled it to 260 with a custom chamber. The neck area of the chamber is slightly bigger so I can use GI 308 brass necked down to 260.
The barrel is a Lilja 8 twist with a PRI adjustable gas block. I swapped out the bolt carrier group with a JP lightened one. The can is a Sure Fire and the scope is a Schmidt & Bender 4-16x42 with a 3-gun Stuff lever. With the A2 buttstock being full of lead it is really heavy, but it offsets the weight of the long barrel and can perfectly.
I mainly shoot 123 Sierras and H4350. I have found the 139/142s dont work well with the short SR-25 mags. The bullet eats up too much powder space. It will hold MOA out to 600-700 on a calm day. When it gets windy, the groups open up as my wind reading skillz blow.
I still have the short 308 barrel and OEM bolt carrier group. On the shelf for a rainy day.

Is the shiny case in the background the "rifle case" for this particular tool? [Flower]
It is my travel case. It holds three scoped rifles. Great for long trips to slay the mighty prairie dog. Just toss it in the back of the truck and dont worry about anything getting damaged.

Did something baaaad today. LGS had this for a grand and couldn't walk away. Nuther EBR called my name.
DPMS Panther AR 10 .308 Oracle. As you can see there needs to be some "additions". But now my Colt LE6920 has a big brother.
Edit: Just had 3 more factory 20 round mags delivered. Also got a new Ergo handgrip. Will put up a new pic when I get the scope and handguard on.

28741Its like a toy store for grown men. Here is my Dpms in 6.5 Creedmoor, and my R-25(Dpms) in .243. For the creed I put on a magpul PRS buttstock, and a Cmc trigger. Up top is a Leupold 6.5-20x50 long range with a true glow red dot mounted off the side for close work. It is currently being threaded for a Thunder beast 30p-1 can. The R-25 is factory except for the Geissielle two stage trigger. Up top is a Trijicon 3-9x40 accupoint. Not a lot of mods to either one but they are deadly for what they are used for.

AddED some new to my DPMS LR308 Oracle. Coming together nicely.
EFFIN-A tunable comp, Magpul A2 fore grip, Ergo pistol grip, Mako GL16 recoil reducing stock, TruGlo 3 color, 3 MOA RDS.
My reasons for these add ons are:
The Ares Armor Effin-A tunable comp is, well, tunable. I can tune this for my AR10 then move it to my Rem700 308 and retune for that gun. Probably won't because my 700 is a tack driver and since its a bolt gun, I won't need quick reacquisition of target like I do for a semi.
Magpul A2 fore grip is a bit shorter than their standard and will allow me to mount a bipod in front of it.
Ergo pistol grip. This is similar to Hogue over molded grip. I like this better than the Hogue because it comes up higher in the back and its more comfortable. It does cost about $5 more than Hogue.
The Mako GL16 stock is a better value IMO than the Magpul PRS, Troy and some others at $100. This thing is not cheap plastic, not for toys or airsoft guns. This is solid, high quality and made for serious shooting. Check it out.
TruGlo tricolor. Yeah, it's not Aimpoint or EOTech. So? For a bit over $100 retail, less on sale I can ring 6" steel all day at 200 yards. The thing is solid, good battery life and has held zero through 200+ rounds. I've had good luck with TruGlo. I had a buddy shoot my LR308 and give me a readout on the TruGlo compared to his $400+ RDS. He gave his pros and cons for his RDS. con - cost over $400. pro - battery lasts longer if you leave it turned on. meh.......

Very. Am a dumbass for letting the 762 go away. The PTOBR is like a cross between the OBR and the PredatAR. Lighter weight with heavy barrel and switchblock. SUB-moa without the 20moa rail. Also has a QD handguard with the ability to swap barrels easily. Going with the 14.5" 7.62. Might be hitting the streets in Aug if lucky.

They are moving them out now they decided to ship with field grade barrels until they perfect the match grade. Was on order from 5/27/12 and delivered on 10/29/13. Very pleased with the quality and service. Will update when I take her around the block a few times ;)

I had returned my lower for a refund 2 wks before they made the announcement. Still kept my place in line and they were able to ship my rife directly to me as they still had the lower that I had sent back (which was originally sent to my FFL).
Resurrecting the thread from the dead but predatobrs have pretty short wait times now. Mine only took a month for a 14.5 inch 7.62. Very nice rifle. I don't buy into the cost for a 223 but 308 ar's are pretty expensive for high quality brands so the cost doesn't bother me as much. It will be interesting to see how the accuracy is of the mdr in 308.

Went with the 14.5" Pinned and welded with the "field grade" barrel. Replacement "Match Grade" barrel changed to 18" with SOCOM brake. I can put it on a 10x16" steel plate @750m with the 14.5"..have yet to see what it can do with the 18". Good shooting to you!

Here's my girl, she's going on a diet soon and loosing 4" off the barrel and getting threaded.
