The first time I saw this episode I took it as anti-gun but after watching it about 20 times I think it’s satire on the gun control issue.

Basically I always saw that episode as an honest but flawed attempt by hard core leftists/antis to make an unbiased and neutral episode on guns.

Just like their other attempts to be "even handed" and "laugh at all sides". They never 100% pull it off (there's always an undercurrent of their own leftward biases) but I always found The Simpsons to be entertaining enough to overlook their libtardness.
