Voter fraud "not a problem"

That is a relief to know! Some lady was all over the radio this morning during my 6am sunday morning commute talking about her book, something Wang was here name. Anyways she said that Republicans are trying to keep minorities from voting by wanting ID's to be required and that is the problem. Voter fraud does happen but it doesnt matter, "we need to focus on getting everyone to vote". Damn evil republicans!

This is such a joke. I heard the same thing in the line waiting to vote a few days ago. Some bitch was going on and on about everyone should vote regardless of their status. I couldn't believe my ears. Why should someone who has no stake or loyalty to this country have the privilege of casting their vote? [Rant1]

I think what people mean to say is: "Voter fraud doesn't matter as long as we win. If we lose, the other side cheated."

I was concerned about voter fraud after the 2000 election. In 2004, I ran a voter registration drive. I set up a table at my church every Sunday and handed out voter registrations, picked them up, and delivered them to the appropriate county clerks offices. It was interesting, and "no" I was not part of ACORN [LOL] In fact I was not affiliated with any group and did no campaigning. I took in about 200 voter registration cards that cycle.

In 2008, I was still a bit concerned with the voting process, so I volunteered as a poll worker. I was fortunate and got to work at an elementary school next to my house. I was mid 40's at the time and easily the youngest poll worker at this polling place. It was interesting to see all of my neighbors that day. The school was open and operating that day, so the kids were walking through the check-in area. Nothing unusual happened. The counting process was pretty straight forward with several checks built into the process. We matched check-in tally against ballots. Check-in people had nothing to do with ballot people, so they would have needed a pre-arranged conspiracy to get double voters or dead people voting. I helped transport the sealed boxes containing the ballots to the county clerks office for counting. We were ID'd and signed for everything. Anything ballot related and/or numbered was accounted for. I can't tell you what happens after things are dropped of at the county, and the sceptic in me still wonders if that would be a good place to improperly influence an election. I did see monitors from the different parties at the county offices, and I would think that they are just itching to catch or accuse the other side of cheating.

My observation is that the state law (not just in CO) is antiquated when it comes to requiring photo ID. Even the poor and minorities have photo IDs. Most people that I could see were happy to show a driver's license when they checked in. No one was required to have a photo ID and the list of acceptable alternatives was pretty well spelled out, albeit absurd (a telephone bill? really?) Any ID can be counterfeit and if the price to manufacture one is low enough, it may be worth the price. For an hour at a Kinko's and a real telephone bill, I can generate 100 counterfeit telephone bills in different names. Producing decent quality driver's licenses would take significantly longer to initially setup and the materials would cost more.

I know that voter fraud happens. People are involved, no system is perfect. I wish that I had more time to volunteer this year, but I figure I would give someone else a chance [Coffee] The process was interesting, and it seems to change in small ways after every election cycle. The chick behind me said we shouldn't have to but I told her that you have to to purchase liquor, tobacco, a firearm or even spray paint so what's the problem when it comes to choosing our elected officials.
She just stood there with a dumbfounded look.
All three election officials that over heard it just smiled.

Well fuck me. Doesn't someone on subsistence also require ID to obtain it? What's the beef? Have an ID, or some valid means of identifying your residency, or you don't vote.

Exactly! I realize its not a huge number but any fraud is BS on either side. I see phone bills in 5 year old kids names so bills are BS for "ID". Its to easy to get fake documents so a govt issued ID should be required, and its easy to get fake ID's also so theirs no excuse!

I went to the adams county building on friday to take care of my wifes license plates...sure enough there was a sign outside that said ID required. I would have got a pic but was carrying my son.

hopefully the dems stay at home and fight this injustice by not voting at all to prove a point.

Fractions of a percent may well be the deciding margin in the so called "battleground" states. A few thousand votes may decide the election, due to the nature of the Electoral College.

Not that hard, nobody is denied the ability to vote. Hell I'd even be in favor of having the receipt waive all fees involved with getting an ID.

Studies actually show voter fraud to be extremely rare.

In Ohio in 2004, an election that was closely studied as one with a supposedly high fraud rate, the rate was 0.00004%. 4 people out of 100,000.
