I was trying to get to sleep last night when I thought that I heard a gun shot. In cap hill you hear weird noises all the time. Forgot all about it until I watched the news and realized that someone was shot 2 blocks from my house...

11th and Broadway is not someplace you want to be after midnight on a Friday or Saturday night. Lots of clubs in that area that attract a certain dirtbag element. There has also been a problem with Mexican gangbangers driving around and beating pedestrians in that area on Saturday nights for a while.

2 words... Get the fuck out of Denver, there is nothing worth the headaches caused by that place... Well I guess that was more than 2 words.

Shoot, there's nowhere in Denver I want to be after 11pm... But remember, if you get jumped by a group of black guys calling you racial slurs DPD won't consider it a hate crime... [Bang]

Sure it can . . . they just won't report the attacks in the news.

I work at 18th and Pearl, and the Yuppification of this area amazes me. Yuppies everywhere you look, running, joggin, walking their little dogs, riding their bikes and scooters.....yet Colfax is just 3 blocks away and 5 Points is right across Park Ave. Quite the odd mix around here of yuppies, winos, homeless, and others. Go to the local Safeway at 20th and Park and it's quite a slurry of all kinds of Obama lovers. I'm really surprised there isn't more crime around here. At least reported crime......

I don't care how many fancy new condos, trendy bars and hot Yuppie babes there are in this neighborhood though, I have to work at night a lot around here and my lil' buddy Roscoe is always with me.

I got so used to hearing gun shots and sirens were I come from it got to were I would not notice them. It took awhile to figure out what was missing at night when I first moved here. No gun shots and sirens to o to sleep to. Even coming from a worse place then Denver by far I still do not like being in Denver in the day time, much less at 1 AM.

I havent really had any issues living in this area. Every now and then there is a bum hanging out outside our building on the front stairs but they never stay long. One night my ex was walking her dog around the block and I was grabbing something from my car and then going to meet up with her. She walked by some thug and he started to follow her but turned the other way when I showed up.

I was a few blocks from there Sat night at a friends house. I was walking to my car to go home at about 12:30AM and for some reason I felt especially uneasy. Especially because there was a fatal stabbing not far from there a few nights before. I was stone cold sober and carrying however. Denver is dangerous. A friend of mine was jumped outside his apartment near there by 4 urban youths about a year ago for no reason. Spent a month in the hospital.

You guys are scared of your own shadows [Poke]Don't most of you CC anyway?

I grew up in those areas, and they are golden ghettos now (5 Points too). My 18 year old niece lived down there all through college and rode a bike everywhere, never an issue. Never really felt unsafe or needed to carry a weapon. Don't wanna be a victim, dont act like a victim.

It's not about being afraid... Avoid bad places at bad times of night and you run a better chance of avoiding bad situations. I'd rather just avoid Denver after a certain hour and not have to worry about the possibility of a bad situation going down.

Sometimes there just ain't nothing you can do. When you're old and busted up, with a bad back and two bad knees, and your job requires you to be in unsavory places at unsafe times, you just kinda feel like a target. Especially if there's no chance in hell of fighting them off or running away. Busted-up, half crippled old guys who can barely walk don't stand much chance against young thugs. And then the employer bars you from carrying, whatcha gonna do? Carry to defend yourself and lose your job for it if you actually DO have to defend yourself?

I don't go to bars at all, and avoid people whenever I can. But Telecom offices aren't usually placed where the real estate rates are high. Been a lotta times when I've felt like eyes were watching me and sizing me up as a possibly gimpy old guy with a job, that may not be able to run or fight back.

Kinda sucks. But like they say, ".45acp says GO AWAY in every language"

I have lived in Wash Park area and Alameda and Federal and been woken up in both places with gun fire. One of the many reasons I'll never call Denver my home again.

Watch out for the bogeyman!

Over the past 5 years, two of my friends have been shot . . . both working as cashiers at stores on Colfax. About a dozen people I know have been mugged, one at gunpoint, several at knifepoint, and one got a brick in the back of the head. I am familiar with nearly 50 similar cases involving people I do not know personally.

I've also lived in a far more dangerous city than Denver, but there are predators here too.

Were they at Vinyl or the church?

Edit : Nevermind. Just googled it and it looks like they were coming from Hive. Can you hook me up with some free drinks if I stop down there?

The little spot right on the corner of 11th and Linc.

Sad part is we were closing after this last weekend anyways unless we got some investment cash influxed... we almost had it till these assholes fucked me and everyone that works there.

Sutra lasted for a bit there ( I was involved in that also) we were hoping that the remodel to hive would kick start a "new era" for us and get it busy again.. didn't work out for us.

Hopefully we will find a new building and try again.

( didn't help that the landlord of the building is kind of a dick)

I go to sleep to the sound of gunfire almost every night, wake up to it most mornings...

Of course, that COULD be because I live less than a mile north of the APD training range, which is used by everyone from the DEA to the FBI to a half dozen sheriff's departments to CDOC, plus several local PDs. Seriously, it sounds like Beirut more often than not... [ROFL1]

Me too but I was working this fine little Puerto Rican chick who just so happened to need a lift real near by! ;)
First time I've been to a night club in several years too.
On a serious note, I saw the crowd get pushed out but I heard no shots over the music.

I do not wake up to it but I do fall asleep to it. It is 2500' to the training range that the DEA, FBI to 3 sheriff's departments plus several local PDs use here in El Paso County. We have a member here that works there.

Actually kind of relaxing to fall asleep to lots of full auto fire. And we hear when they are training with the larger guns at Ft Carson. [Flower]

Personally, I stopped going to LoDo years ago, because I can't stand being shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of drunk a-holes all night, spending $7 on a single Bud Light, and standing at the bar for five minutes before the bartender decides I look thirsty. No thanks. I can tolerate that kind of experience in Vegas, but not here. I much prefer just hitting a local neighborhood bar, being able to hear myself think, and not having to worry about taking a bottle to the head (or bullet) when 1:45 rolls around.

Does this mean you don't work the bars on Friday and Saturday for over time?

You just going to keep bashing him till he leaves? Or are you going to treat him like a normal member. Your choice.

Irving

I AM treating him like a normal member. I know two Denver cops, both of them I met because they worked the bars on the weekends. Therefor, my experience with Denver police are those who also work the bars.

I was mildly curious if he worked that kind of detail, and mildly curious if he might know either of those two guys. I'm not curious enough to ask outright, but since being in Denver after 10 pm came up, I thought I'd ask.

I'd appreciate it if you'd quit applying whatever filter you are using today to my posts. Your choice.

I avoid downtown like the plague unless it is a sporting event. I just can't see spending a 6 packs worth of $$ for a single beer, and a crazy amount of $$ for a cab ride home. If I were single I might sing a different tune though.

Irving

I honestly must have missed the intent. Was he takin' a swing at me? I know there are some jagoffs here, but I didn't recognize his name as being one of them.

No, I wasn't. I'd say side job is the correct term, since they are in uniform, but paid by the property owners.

Does that Bluebird bar get pretty rowdy? It always seems like it when I am near by after dark.
