Hey everyone I was wondering how duck hunting was doing for all of you. I was having trouble with them to commit in to the spread, they will lock up but defiantly will not fully commit into my decoys. I was just wondering how you guys were doing.

Need new ducks in the area, they have been hunted hard. Hope the weather changes soon as well. So to answer that question, they were doing the same thing for us a well 2 weeks ago.

Along the Platte river by Snyder and Brush. Love the area, just too many hunters and them damned sucks get smart fast in that area. The MoJo isn't even working anymore for them either.

they are almost all local ducks. it won't be until the 2nd split when i think they will really get going.

Ya I live in Fort Collins and I have hunted by Greely on the river tons of them are flying off the corn fields. There are just too many new guys hunting and are calling like crap. Then I go to this other place called cobb lake and you just got the guys who sky blast and or sit behind you and try and jump shot them when they come in to your decoys. I just need to get a lease or something because I can’t deal with these guys’s any more.

Helps if we had some water down here. They always freak out when I set up at the pond in front of the Doubletree Hotel.

you guys are going about it wrong...My buddy is working this line, just an fyi and I think he's full of it...

We're giving up on the water issue because of price of lease or lack of it. Thus, we're working with a local golf course to hunt em there. The catch is, bow only. Looking forward to seeing how this works out, but I doubt it will.

I have bow hunted for geese before and it is a blast...until you run out of arrows and have to go pick them up. We used flu-flu arrows with cheap broadheads from Walmart that go on sale after archery season.

That could be fun just not on a golf course.

I was a golf pro for 10 years and some courses allow you to hunt on them. I used to hunt at the courses I was the pro at. Meridian used to allow its members to hunt there. It was almost to easy...haha

The thing to think about is a course takes up a lot of space and the lakes are usually surrounded by 600+ yards of golf grass in all directions. Because i confirmed the report. If you can hunt your local course you must invite me. :D

Went out this last weekend on public land and had a blast shoot two drake mallards, 1 hen mallard, 1 hen gadwall, and 1 drake greater scaup! Will try and post pics when i get home tonight! That's the one down side i've seen to these threads! (no duck pics, i'll do my best to get them up ASAP)

Any of you guys hunted Tamarack Ranch? I went up to Banner Lakes this past weekend with some guys from work and we slayed some ducks. We shot 24 ducks, it was my first time duck hunting and I had a blast. Im looking for new places to go now and a guy here at work told me about Tamarack.

thanks! I'm considering getting it mounted. I got 2 of them that were of mount quality. one has a beautiful bronze color on his head and the other one in the picture has the green. you can see the color in both of them but one almost always shows the bronze and the other the green.

up near wiggins on a private lease. I still need to upload the video but cleaning up the decoys that night there were probably a couple hundred birds all around coming into the ponds for the night. they were all over the place!

Sniper...

Question for you. In january i got hurt and am now in a wheelchair. I havent found any land that gets me close to any animals while in my chair. Could you get to your spot if in a chair?

I am hoping next year is different!

Thanks

sniper7
11-28-2012, 15:47
that spot wouldn't be doable. The blinds are across the water and we take a small boat across.

I have another spot up in sterling that is a buddy of mines private land that might be possible, just depends on where we go in at. one spot might be doable if the chair can do a little off roading. most of the time we have to have waders though.

Geology Rocks
11-28-2012, 16:29
Thanks for the reply. Thats what I figured. The chair could get across a field and down dirt roads with some rocks but couldnt do anything crazy. I can get out and move around south site and shoot there.

If you are ever feeling generous and want to make my year let me know. Haha

Went out last weekend up north and everything was frozen rock solid! Want to go this weekend but not sure if there are any huntable options. Any body here had any luck lately? I'm hoping so so I can live vicariously through you! LOL!!![ROFL3]

look for a river. I'm sure all the SWA's will be packed but it may be the only option. No living through me, I'm home with baby.

Went out last saturday on the platte....waaaay down. apparently it was free water. had a couple teal land in front of us in the decoys but it was before shooting light and they took off before it was legal to shoot. Had a few mallards come just about into shooting distance but we let them go and they landed down river of us and wouldn't swim up. Went after some geese but didn't have a big enough decoy spread for the massive flocks. had one semi-low flying group so we tried to skybust em but no luck...

I'll be out several times in the next couple weeks. Plan on getting some so I'll post pictures!

didn't take pictures of all the birds because we finished late and spent forever putting away the decoys...about 50 dozen of them, but limited on both ducks and geese yesterday!

Hoping to go maybe this weekend. My neighbor said he went out last weekend. he bought a very old 12 gauge with double triggers and cocking hammers. took a limit of ducks with it, and 3 geese. all with low brass 7 1/2 shot!!!

then he took it to rich wyatt who informed him that it has a hairline crack in the stock, it is very old and shouldn't be shot, but for $50 he would be willing to take a lot closer look at it! ROFL
