a dog...they help a lot. other than that its pretty easy if the birds are out.
Ive been hunting pheasant for a long time.
#1. Take clothing for warm and cold weather. It can be freezing in the morning but sweatshirt weather in the afternoon. Or your clothes can get wet.
#2. Bring items to clean the birds if you choose to do so in the field (not back at home). Items such as freezer bags, knife, sheers, 2 gallons of bottled water to clean the birds.
#3. Cooler to keep drinks in and if you shoot any birds a good place to keep them in once they are cleaned.

I've had a couple people point guns at me while dove hunting and pheasant hunting. People seem to lose their freakin mind when they see those birds. No clue why. So keep your eyes peeled.

If you are going to walk a lot of brambles, be prepared for your boots to take a beating. I walk a lot of nasty growth and they tear up everything but the kangaroo leather boots.
Make sure you can walk a long ways in whatever pants you are taking.
Get warm gloves that won't hinder shooting.
If you can't get on the birds with the right lead, go to 2,3,or 4 steel shot at about 1500 fps. Little to no lead needed.

Having something to hold the birds you have shot so your hands are free while you are walking and not having to worry about having a bird your holding.

Any blaze orange hat
Any blaze orange beenie
First aid kit, with tweezers and antiseptic!
A couple things to remember...know your terrain and weather. Last couple years on opening day it's been hot. So pants and a tshirt, with a vest.
Always wear eye protection, it's saved my bacon a few times and the other guys I hunt with. Assume you will get peppered, and realize that blockers/walkers don't always have control of their shot patterns. Pellets do collide and go off course. I always wear layers. Underarmor is my preferred gear. I've worn it since 97 under my football gear and swear by it.
Last but not least, SOCKS!!! Get a good pair of socks, your feet will thank you for it.
I wear a shotgun ammo belt (http://www.skdtac.com/Tactical-Tailor-21rd-Shotgun-Belt-p/1tt.181.htm) for hot days (+15F) for faster reloads. A lot also depends on the dog situation. If I have my dog with me, I wear my dog vest.
I'll see if I can remember to make a video how to clean a pheasant next time I go. there are plenty of ways, but I like my way![Tooth]
Nice. One more question. Im making a plug for my shotgun. Is it 2+1 or 3+1? Thanks.

It is three plus one.
It is three plus one.
Wrong.
While hunting any game bird in Colorado with the exception of Snow geese, the limit is 2 shotgun shells in the magazine tube and 1 in the chamber.
It will cost you $70 if you get checked by a game warden and you have to many shells in or dont have a plug.
