One day into Dear Leader's extended stay in Washington, I got laid off of work. It may not be Dear Leader's fault but I am having fun blaming him for right now(just because it is convenient[Tooth]). Fortunately I did not really like my job and have been looking for something else, so I have a few irons in the fire.

Make sure to get your slice of the government cheese if you're eligible. Hell, probably won't be long before they extend unemployment benefits indefinitely.

Sorry to hear that. But like you said since you didn't really like this one, might be a blessing in disguise.

If it encourages you at all, I applied on and off in my industry for the better part of four years, only to be blown off time and time again. I recently started a new job in my industry, and have had one company call me TWICE for a position, and just got an email from another company encouraging me to apply for a job that I wouldn't think they would consider me for.

I have been trenching in fiber optic cable for a construction company, it got old quick.

I have a weld test at a local place on Friday afternoon. I am hoping that works out well. Being indoors this winter would be nice.

This has pushed me to start planning on opening the brewpub I have always wanted to open(in the next couple of years).[Beer]

Sometimes "bad" events are good. If you didn't like doing what you're doing then now you're really motivated to find something you actually would like doing. After all, who wants to be miserable for the rest of their life?

Personally. If I don't want to do something. I simply don't.

Keep in mind the longer you're out of work the harder it will be to tell perspective employers why you were out of work for so long... Longer job gap = harder to get a job.

In 1997, the company I had worked for for 13 years went into bankruptcy, initially Chapter 11, moving into Chapter 7 as it became obvious they could not find a buyer. I started working for myself full time in January 1998, and have never looked back. The first 3 years or so were REALLY tough, and it's never been easy, but I don't regret it. Sometimes, it takes an outside force to overcome one's inertia and make good things happen.

I passed my weld test, physical, and drug test(I didn't even study for it[ROFL1]). So, Thursday morning I start back to work. I am happy to have a good job so quickly.

Congrats! I was gonna say, this sounds like a buddy of mine- he got laid off in '09 (he too blamed Obummer), decided to sell his snowmobiles and rent out his vacation home (yeah, he had it pretty good) and start up his own business... Now he's making a little less than his old job, but he's 100% happier. Good luck with this new job, hope it brings you happiness and success!

Last drug test, I copied off the Asian kid. People with skill usually stay busy, good for you.
