I wake up to learn a friend and co-worker has been shot and killed on the job. I'm fu**ing pissed!

Edit: Ok, my anger has turned to deep sadness for his wife and two young kids he left behind...

Why would anyone want to be a cop?

Your life is constantly under a microscope.

You work weird long shifts when most of the world, including your own family is either asleep or out enjoying themselves.

The pay will never justify some of the things you have to see or do on a daily basis.

It can be dangerous. Really dangerous. The kind of dangerous that you don't come home from.

So why the hell would anyone want to be a cop?

That's easy. It's something you are, not just something you do.

Goodbye my friend. You're clear for end of watch...

I'm so sorry. It happened 5 blocks from my house. My wife finished her shift this morning, and took flowers to the officers on scene. She's a paramedic, and went to pay her respects and give her condolences. The officer manning the perimeter actually ended up giving her a hug to comfort her. There just are no words.

Anyone know if Lakewood PD training has target ID training?

Would be extremely interested to learn if this was the mistake of an officer or training that doesn't include some important stuff.

Not here to make accusations or call anyone names, but I am curious.

T-Giv
11-10-2012, 15:19
All departments train in target acquisition in some form or another. Who knows what could have happened. It's impossible to speculate. It was dark, numerous shots were being fired, and who knows what was going on there. It's a terrible incident and I'm sure it will be heavily investigated. The majority of law enforcement trainings for the next few years will revolve around this type of incident.

This happened at my wife's grandmother's former house (she spent a lot of time there growing up). She's unsure if her uncle still owns it or not. My condolences go out to the family of the deceased officer, his departmental family, and especially the officer that shot him by mistake. That has to be a horrible burden to shoulder.

RIP and sorry for his families loss.

Do I assume he was struck in the head? Does anyone know the extent of this, with the gunshot would survival rate at 80 + plus percent and I would guess he was wearing a vest, or was he shot with a rifle?
