When I was pulling out of my parking garage just now some eastern eurpoean fellow almost plowed right into the drivers side of my car pulling a U-turn so I laid on the horn and gave him the "thanks for paying attention to your surroundings" finger. He then proceeded to block my car and walk towards my window to tell me he'd kick my ass if I ever did that to him again.
I told him he needed to pay attention and if he ever blocked my exit and threatened me again he'd be staring death right in the face.
Now I probably shouldn't have given him the finger but what would any of you have done differently? I should note, I didn't have my XDm in the car as I usually do so that's mistake number two.
Looking forward to the hotwash.

You shouldn't have threatened him. That's all though.

I would've flipped him off again to test his seriousness. And yeah threatening is not always a good deal. Downside is ol boy knows where you live now.

I agree that threatening is a bad idea. It could give him a motive to call the cops on you and that would be bad on your record.
Do it indirectly. I had a confrontation with some young punk years ago. I honked when he blocked off a lane and he got out of his car yelling that he'd stomp me or something such. I stayed in my car with the window down. before he got too close I yelled that it was unwise to threaten to assault people. He stopped and I was sitting there with my right hand behind my back and my seat belt unbuckled. I don't know how much he noticed but he shut up and got out of there.

In Denver after Tuesday? Use your highest falsetto and scream about his anti-gay hooliganism. If you're anything other than white you could add "racist" to the remarks while you did your best to act like Hollywood from "Mannequin".
I would have done the same thing.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with a short temper that loves to use my middle finger....

I would've asked him if he wanted "summer teeth". Some are over here, some are over there. (kidding)

I think my problem is that I expect more of people. I'm not sure why, because most people are complete morons, but I just expect that they have enough respect for themselves to at least pretend to be a competent driver.
Depends on if you thought you could kick his ass. It's not worth killing someone over a traffic violation, but throwing him a beating wouldn't be so bad [Tooth]

Maybe but getting up out of my car would've slowed me down enough to let him get a good punch or two in. Can't wait until I get a Jeep haha.

With my 76th birthday coming up next month, I just love that sig line - not that I'd ever "harm" anyone..[Coffee]
Should've laid down suppressive fire and moved to a defensible position. Or thrown a chili dog at him.

I've read about suppressive fire on this forum before and I've gotta say, it's classic haha. I think a chili dog would de-escalate the situation faster than a gun because... "did he really just hit me with a chili dog? I better leave, this dude is bat shit crazy."

I have put more miles on my work truck then I like to think about since the beginning of the year (mainly due to gas prices) and I have to tell you people drive like assholes. It is a fact of life. Did he hit you? No. Could you at that point just went on your merry way with out confrontation? Yup. What did you gain by the conflict? Not a damn thing.
Of course I drive with my business name and phone number on my truck so it is best not to skyline myself.
Man, F that guy for getting mad at you for flipping him off. Glad it wasn't me. I liked your response. I doubt I'd have had the sack to say that myself though.

It was obviously an unnecessary escalation to flick him off but I man was I heated. I don't care how mad I get at someone, I fear for my life too much to ever get out and storm towards someone's car.
Just be careful, if you do cause any escalation and it does end in a conceal carry discharge you could be subject to criminal prosecution. While I do find the postings funny, I just wanted to point that out encase some idiot is reading. I myself would most likely have flipped him off because I can be a hot head too.

If it had ended that way, even though he stormed out of his car towards mine and threatened me first could my finger really be considered the escalation?
I would of gotten out and asked him if he would like a new dot on his forehead? But it helps when you are 6'7" and pushing 280. I have gotten out of my truck twice both times the person who asked me to get out proceed to get back in their car.
Could your middle finger be considered an escalation? I don't know. But do you want to risk it?

I would have groveled on the ground and begged for mercy.

The wiser version of me says that you cannot gain anything from any action other than waiting for him to stop being a dumb-ass in your general vicinity. So with that flipping him off did nothing for him either because he already knew he was being a dumb-ass then got mad, or the more likely alternative based on your account is that he was too much of a dumb-ass to understand and flipping him off went way over his head because he did not see anything wrong with what he was doing. Lose lose.
The smart-ass version of myself thinks that that would have been the perfect time to start screaming at him in fake Russian and slamming your head into your car horn. This response would confuse him long enough for you to grab any food items in your car and start smashing them onto your car while screaming "You see this Lary, this is what happens when you f@ck a stranger in the ass!!" Most likely your problem will be solved at this point either because the guy is so confused at what happened, or because enough people will be gathering watching you. Win Win.
ha ha ha ha... that was some funny shit
Well...from all the replies, I agree and probably would've flipped him the bird too. That being said, If I'm still in my driveway and he would've approached my car then I would've reminded him to get the hell off my lawn and any acts of violence from him would be construed as an attempt on my life and result with life or death consequences. Now, that being said, if I were in the middle of a city street, I would stay in my car and yell in a loud voice, "GET AWAY FROM MY CAR!" over and over until he got the point. Getting out of the car is a bad idea and can escalate things which might result in you having to explain yourself before a judge. I do feel your pain and how frustrating it is when these jack-a-loons are the one's at fault and just can't seem to give a friendly "Sorry" wave and drive off. I have a tendency to throw the bird from time to time for those who rightfully deserve it, but I know carrying a firearm 99% of the time comes with the responsibility of holding myself to a higher standard. Often in cases like that, I find myself gripping my steering wheel and just shouting: "WHAT...THE...F**K...ARE...YOU...DOING?!" followed by a deep breath and continuing with my day.
This is why God gave us flamethrowers.....to light up assholes like that.
I wasn't there but here is my .02 cents worth. If he called you out you would have been in the right for beating him up. And most likely charges wouldn't have been filed or the case would have been dismissed. Worse case scenario would have been he windmilled the shit out of you and it would have been the most embarrassing fight of your life. Euro trash has been pretty much neutered since WWII.

Words and gestures aren't escalation, someone approaching you in a menacing fashion while threatening violence is escalation.

Eurotrash huh? Okay....
We MIGHT look at Eastern Europeans as Bolsheviks Warshaw pack euro trash, but Eastern Europeans look at us as arrogant gun totting crazy cowboys.

"Gee I'd sure like to set those people on fire over there"
Called me out on what?
That he wanted to kick your butt. However, staying in the car when someone says that to you isn't a good place to be in a fight. So you might want to get out and ask him to repeat it.
I say Eurotrash in a tongue and cheek way I don't mean anything by it but I don't get to say Eurotrash enough so I just wanted to get it out of my system.
Eurotrash gets that and if not they are Eurotrash.
They can't think what ever they want to about us. We are the only ones that are free to think what we want and get away with it. At least we didn't get beaten up by rioting unarmed muslims.

Wait until he gets close enough to your door, and then tag him in the face with it? Then drive away.
Or bet a bigger truck, and just push
(Ok don't do either of those things)
Your response was justified. It's good he didn't test it though. You could have always just run him over.
