Just heard on the radio that he has resigned as Director General of the CIA.
Blowback from Benghazi?

Definitely. I mentioned this Tuesday night in one of the election threads. He had been looking for a new job because he felt like he was betrayed and thrown under the bus.

I was told about a week ago he was getting ready to resign(looking for jobs at universities) and the same individual just said the affair likely isn't true and the White House has been talking shit about him.

Yup. That's the way "they" do things in this admin... Read history, all the regimes that follow this ideology do the same thing. No one is safe, no one (in their admiin, not talking about the general populace).

Another one airbrushed out of the picture......rather Stalinesque isn't it?

He WAS thrown under the bus, I do recall hearing the Administration say that "the Intelligence community failed" when it came to Benghazi.
Petraeus out along with Ham and Gouete(sp).
Nah, nothing to see here.......move along now.

People don't confess to extramarital affairs just because.

Agreed. I think there's a lot more to it than that... hell, affairs happen all the time, more than anyone would like to admit, and a lot of the time folks keep their jobs. ie. Bill Clinton.

I suspect he's an "oath keeper".

I don't think Obama really wanted Petraeus anyway. The DCI appointment was a way to get him out of the limelight, keep him from being a popular candidate for Chief of Staff of the Army or CJCS and keep him from becoming a political opponent in 2012. I expect Petraeus is just as happy to leave an administration that hung men out to dry despite live feeds during 7 hours of combat.

I don't think Obama give a crap what anyone thinks about his administration any more. And why would Petraeus throw his wife under the bus like that?

Now obama can run the cia as well.

I thought the same thing.. But, there is something, not quite sure what at the moment, That seems too "neat" and "obvious".

It's leaveing me with the impression of Rommel.

Maybe the tinfoil is on a bit tight today..

And since when does an affair deter anyone in a governmental position anyway???

Yup, far too convenient considering he was to testify next week.

NPR was saying that the FBI had hundreds if not thousands of emails between him and the mistress in question, and that tipped red flags for security breaches and that they know allll about the affair. Guess the CIA frowns on those kinds of Loose Ends relationships.

That is, if you believe that the FBI has such information. They've never collaborated with other bodies of the government to hide shit, right? There'd certainly be some fast an furious consequences if they were caught!

Embedded: Petraeus Was Screwing His Biographer; Claim Made She Was Trying to Access His Emails

—Ace

One way to get the inside story. (http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2012/11/09/petraeus_resigns_over_affair_with_biographer.html)
The woman with whom Gen. David Petraeus was having an affair is Paula Broadwell, the author of a recent hagiographic book about him, All In: The Education of General David Petraeus.
Petraeus resigned as CIA director on Friday, citing the affair.

A tweet from "Breaking News" (no idea who this is) says:
Breaking News ‏@BreakingNewsFBI investigating Petraeus biographer Paula Broadwell for improperly trying to access his email, officials tell @NBCNews

So, is she hot?
Ehhh... (http://www.flickr.com/photos/58355836@N05/6846307385) Got somethin'.
Here she is, talking about her book about Petraeus, called, yes, All In. (http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-january-25-2012/paula-broadwell)
You know, if you watch that interview, she does actually sound like she's having sex with him. It's a very "we did this, we did that" sort of thing. She sounds like she's talking about her boyfriend.
Corrected: I changed the email thing to a "claim," and dropped the claim that she was trying to get into his classified email.
The claim doesn't even say that.
However, given that he's head of the CIA, all of his email would be classified, it seems to me.
More: Apparently she is suspected of attempting to access classified emails. (http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/11/09/15056607-petraeus-biographer-paula-broadwell-under-fbi-investigation-over-access-to-his-email-law-enforcement-officials-say)
Like I said, I assume all of his emails are classified.
The biographer for resigning CIA Director David Petraeus is under FBI investigation for improperly trying to access his email and possibly gaining access to classified information, law enforcement officials told NBC News on Friday.
But they say they do not expect the investigation to end in criminal charges.
Huh?

People don't confess to extramarital affairs just because.

Resignation, -"just because" - sure
Resignation, to "spend more time with the family" - fairly common
Resignation because I porked someone other than the wife - that's not as common

Maybe his wife told him that if he wanted to save the marriage, he had to resign.

Probably more like: "you can resign or be investigated for espionage"

I imagine that, while politicians get to dick around (until they get caught, after a certain stage I'm sure the opposition has a PI trailing you all the time just to see,) to be head of sensitive places + have a mistress invites all sorts of bad shit. Not just that the lady is a spy herself, but suppose the bad guys find out before we do? Suppose they say, we can tell your wife / your boss / the papers you've been dicking around? Why not just give us this completely innocent piece of info?

Then once their tiny piece of info is gotten in exchange for silence, well. Now you're a spy. If you don't continue to work for us, not only are you fucked from the affair but you're going to jail for espionage when we burn the fuck out of you. How about it, champ?

Last guy you want open to that sort of thing is head of the CIA. A completely, down to the bone 100% honorable man wouldn't be taken for that, but "We have to trust anyone in any position of authority is 100% honorable" is a bad play, historically.

"Gents, I broke the Petraeus story here more than a week before it happened. Now the follow up, this story they are floating out on a Friday afternoon is pure BS. There was an affair but there is much more to this, namely Libya, maybe something else."

Should be interesting
