Now if this were only legit... i've never heard of any of those sites before, and why is this not a media frenzy if true?
Interesting... stupid (IMO), but interesting. Wonder if it'll gain any traction. Apparently they have one month to garner 25K signatures. Wonder if those sigs will now be on a "no fly" list, HAHA.
I see no press release on whitehouse.gov though and they obvisouly have more than 150 sigs as requested by those websites....

I wonder how many signatures they'd get if you didn't have to create an account with all of your personal information to do so. I'm sure the last thing most people that would consider signing the petition want to do is provide the current administration with all of their info and a signed statement that they want the state they live in to secede.
I see two problems with these people doing this (if it's legit):
1) They most likely will not get the signatures needed because of my point above.
2) The government will use it against them by saying that the people that agree with the concerns/beliefs of the people that created these petitions are a very small minority as they couldn't get the required 25K signatures.
Didn't this happen once before?

I'm even weary about buying a new gun now that O got reelected...when they pull the list of firearms owners to come "have a chat" with them I don't want my name up at the top.
I'm all for rebellion...but this seems sort of silly to me. It's kind of like the group in the south who has been trying to secede for the last umpteen years, it's a very small minority.
4,501 signatures on CO's right now. Dec 10th is the deadline to reach 25,000. I don't see it happening.

Not even a possibility here, Not with Lickenstupid and the type of legislature we have now.
I just checked the texas petition and it only needs 1,500 more signitures.

There was a pretty significant movement in Texas in 2010 led by Chuck Norris if I remember correctly. The election caused the whole thing to quiet down, but if something like that were to start again now it will not be long until the support grows large enough to at least get the signatures. If Texas succeeded in becoming its own nation I think that I might just have to start saying yall and relocate.

wow they're on it. I see it says TX needs 193 more signatures, but either way. They're coming in quickly....
And nothing will come of it. Those petitions have zero legal standing.

26,000 "signatures" (not all of which are necessarily Texans) out of nearly 26,000,000 people ... even if the petition were legitimate and serious, the only thing this petition is good for is a laugh and to draw media attention (but it won't).

Sure seemed to work (if for a little while) for the OWS folks... If people with resources and actual commitment got behind it, who knows what a social revolution could accomplish. Especially suitably motivated.
Texas has over 40k sigs at the moment btw.

This seems a bit extreme and I would say even unconstitutional- doesn't the right to petition fit into the 1st Amendment?
I see this whole secession thing not getting a whole lot of traction... But hey, we can dream right?
