View Full Version : Concealed Carry permit holder has negligent discharge at CU

The Post is calling it an "accident". I'm going to assume it's negligence, which is usually a good assumption in such cases.
Cue the shrill voices taking this incident and calling it proof that CC doesn't make you safer.
In non-firearm-related news, there were about 1000 automobile-related fatalities across the US last week (just a guess, but there's about 50k annually). I can't believe we allow those deathtraps on the roads.

I'd love to give the dip that allowed this to happen a piece of my mind. I'm going to avoid making assumptions but something wasn't kosher if he managed to have a negligent (there are no accidents) discharge and injuring two people.
ANother tool for CU Regent to vote against ccw. :(

I've never understood how anyone can have an "accident" with a firearm going off while carrying. It's either in a holster, or you have it out to use for self defense. Luckily there were no deaths in this incident, but it sure does add fuel to the fire for those saying that allowing concealed carry on campus puts people in danger instead of making it safer. It really sucks that those of us that are responsible and have fought for our rights regarding carrying can have one negligent person do something that could provide a specific example for the other side's argument. Pulling your gun out to show someone is as stupid as pulling out your junk.[Bang]

I like this... I always used the Katana rule with my pistol: "You draw it only to inspect, clean, or use."
Happened in the building across the parking lot from where my wife works. She noticed nothing out of the ordinary going on. Received an email from the campus Chief of Police about the incident the following Monday.

Number is much lower. About 32K in 2011. If you remove non-cccupants (pedestrtians and bicyclists), the number is about 29K. The high was just above 54K in 1972 and have been going down almost every year since. About 7K of the 29K were Motorcyclists, which is the only deomgraphic on the rise for MVA related deaths. The reduction over the last 40 years is largely attributed to better educaton of drivers, better medical response, and safety equipment such as seatbelts and airbags.

Thanks for the updated number. It's still a travesty we allow them at all.
If the general population insists on having them, certainly we can protect our kids by not allowing students, faculty, or staff to have them on campus!
accident my ass! CU must be loving this!
In other news a CU Denver police officer had to shoot and kill a man on campus that attacked him with a sword. In my mind these two incidents cancel one another out.
The woman responsible was been fired. Apparently she was showing another employee her carry weapon, tried to cycle the slide to clear it, and managed to discharge the weapon instead. She sustained a cut on the hand, the other person was struck by bullet fragments. She had only recently started carrying in response the the Jessica Ridgeway murder.

It's been said before, but may be worth repeating. Your carry weapon is much like your genitals. The less you show or adjust them in public the better off we will all be. Oh, and learn how to handle your fucking gun.
Interesting news. One of the big problems is training. I know Rob (Firemoth) is on the other side of the fence than I am regarding the whole "training" topic, however; not always but in most cases - students are a reflection of their teachers. You can't fix stupid and common sense isn't always a common thing. There are also A LOT of sub-par instructors out there teaching garbage classes (I often refer to these as "Permit Mills"). People want something for nothing and in most cases go to the lowest cost instructor to just get the bare minimum certificate required to get the CCW. They never think of continued training, do not understand the basic fundamentals of proper concealment, draw-stroke, legal aspects of carrying, don't bother going to the range and praciticing, the list goes on and on. The end product, are jack-a-loons like this moron who negligently discharged her conceal-carry firearm. Fortunately, the other person was only injured and not killed. Hard lesson to learn for the lady, but stupid should hurt. Sad to think these idiots are out there and carrying firearms daily. I'd like to find this lady, let her know if we ever end up in a gun fight to give me her gun so I have 2 to defend myself with.

This wasn't a student amusingly enough. Since all those drunk, promiscuous, irresponsible, hot-headed students carrying guns was supposedly the fear.

You forgot to include "testosterone-soaked".

Had this been a student and not an administrator, the uproar would be deafening.
