View Full Version : Modern Metal
Okay, so th3w01f's thread on 80's metal forced me to avoid derailing and create this... [Beer]
Those who listen to modern metal (try to limit it to the last 15 or so years) what are your favorite bands?
I know cfortune will like this:
ZPRt6Tt6RyM
Some of my favorites- besides Amon Amarth:
Slipknot/Stone Sour (same lead singer and guitarist), Trivium, Disturbed, A7X, Five Finger Death Punch, Atreyu.
Then I do love some Symphonic metal (say what you will, it sounds good):
Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica.
There's probably more, but I can't think off the top of my head without cheating and looking into my iTunes
I like this thread im probably one of the youngest here so there might be a few bands you never heard of. Here it goes! My top 10 would be 1. Parkway drive 2. August burns red 3. All that remains 4. We came as Romans 5. Lamb of god 6. Five finger death punch 7. Disturbed 8 bring me the horizon 9.in this moment 10. Mudvayne.
Aperta,
I love August Burns Red, All That Remains, and Lamb of God as well... If you don't mind my asking, how old are you?

+1 on most of these bands but Pantera is in the number 1 spot for me. Couple of other bands that are in the changer Hatebreed, Kill switch, American head charge, Poision the well, As I lay diying, God smack, Hellyea, metallica, In flames.

I have become a new fan of symphonic metal mostly through Epica (Simone Simons is HOT!)

18 I would've joined this forum about 2 years ago but I thought it would've been stupid since I couldn't even buy a gun then haha.

Glad to see someone else that's into Metalcore. I've been listening to a ton of God Forbid and Amon Amarth lately.

You should have joined anyways.
I like All that Remains. Six is one of my favorite songs.

Every Time I Die is another good one, though I wouldn't classify them as metal.

Some great bands in this thread already. All you metalheads should check out the Toad Tavern in Littleton and support some great local talent. I think Fridays are metal nights.

I might have to check that out! [Beer] I can't remember their name, but we saw a local metal band two years ago at UproarFest, they opened for Uncle Nasty's band (who wasn't very good) and these guys were pretty awesome. I think they were from Ft. Collins or something.
Not really Metal, but I have to be honest, Lzzy Hale is bad ass and makes my pants fit funny.

I went there a time or two back in the day, but for the last year or so I have worked Fridays. I work 12 hr shifts so getting out and tearing up the metal scene is not nearly as fun when work started at 4:30 am.

You may be in luck, it looks like the format varies from week to week. It's even Metal night there tomorrow night. Here's the calendar: http://toadtavern.com/musicschedule.htm

I love Lzzy! Halestorm is awesome live! And I had the distinct pleasure of meeting the band- she's pretty rad in person, not to mention hawt! Also, at the same show, got to meet Corey Taylor of Stone Sour and Slipknot- told him that before missions in AFG we played his music- the thought that was awesome.

I know some chick who boned one of the parkway drive guys. I guess she started crying immediately after. Not really a hardcore/metalcore fan though.
What I'm usually listening to:
As Ronin mentioned, Amon Amarth
Immortal
Skeletonwitch
Opeth
Slayer
Katatonia
Arch Enemy
Ihsahn
Demonaz
I
Obscura
Sophicide
Vektor
3 Inches of Blood
Carly Rae Jepsen
Absu
Children of Bodom
Cephalic Carnage
Martriden
Thats pretty bad ass! I wanted to see them when they came through, but missed out. Did you put the moves on her?

Gojira, as I lay dying, in flames, the black dahlia murder, arch enemy, and some bullet for my valentine
Finally someone else who knows Gojira, the best thing out of France since fries. Where can you even get an I(or eye) album these days, I liked what I've heard but can't find it for sale? Meshuggah was the best concert I saw last year definitely worth checking out. Opeth...awesome. I lost a tooth at the Black Dahlia Murder concert a couple years ago. I've been listening to Candiria lately, kind of metal meets jazz meets rap, different but good. Whitechapel, Ghost, Kreator, Spawn of Posssesion, the Human Abstract, the new Testament, Acacia Strain, Between the Buried and Me, Tool of course, and if Slipknot is included then Mushroomhead. The band that opened up for Uncle Nasty's band had to be one od two if they were from Ft Collins, Mashadar which is broken up now, my buddy was the drummer, good band. Or Allegaeon, those kids are badass, really talented and amazing that they come out of Ft Collins.
Man I totally forgot about Gojira! I found them randomly a few years ago and somehow they disappeared from my playlists.

I saw Maylene & The Sons of Disaster in Austin. Interesting, to say the least. Kinda like Lynard Skynard meets metal.

As far as I know, I only released one album which is called "Between Two Worlds". I had the hardest time finding it then randomly my brother was like "You mean this CD?". So I ripped it to my computer. Kind of hard to even find info on them with a name like "I" when you don't know the album name. Google doesn't help much in that scenario. I'll see about hosting it somewhere if you want it.

Didn't put the moves on her, but did some real heavy flirting... I even changed the lyrics to one of her songs "I'm in love with somebody... and it's you!" She smiled and said "how sweet!" As we parted ways she did plant a little peck on my cheek. I think that made my lady friend (note, not GF) I went with a little jealous.

I simply purchased their albums from iTunes. I am sure that amazon or Gojira's website has the albums for sale.

Now and then I love me some Devildriver.
Man this damn thread is making me want to get out my guitar and drum kit again. Anyone else on here in a thrash metal band? I was a vocalist and rhythm guitarist for a band for three years, and I did some back up drumming when our drummer wanted to do guitar or vocals for songs that he wrote. It was a blast, but in the end being in a band is tough and a lot of work. I have been toying with the idea of getting back into it, but I just have not had any time.

I played drums for about 7 years before I went off to bootcamp, but haven't picked it back up. While stationed at Pendleton, I was a vocalist for an alt-rock band. We used to play parties and tiny bars in Orange County; nothing serious, just for fun. I much prefer vocals to drums, but I can't do the deathmetal screaming; I prefer melody. I've also been throwing around the idea of getting back into it.
I got a guitar before deploying to the 'Stan, but I couldn't bring it over with me (our connex filled up too fast), I never did learn to play it... :(

I'm not musically gifted. My friend is the drummer for a local band called "Arise in Chaos". They're playing Herman's on the 7th.
