View Full Version : Well, THIS sucks!
Lost my friggin' job today. 56 years old, now I've gotta start all over again. Can't even remember the last time I was unemployed.
Fuck. [Bang]

That FNG sucks big time. Can you contact Cabela's and put in an app for the new one going up by your house in advance? Keeping the fingers crossed for ya!
Been working in telecom for 26 years, mostly installing and maintaining equipment, building and testing circuits, everything from regular phone lines up to massive internet routers and transport equipment, and circuits so big you wouldn't even believe how much traffic they'd carry. It's a goddamn cutthroat industry, Lowes or Home Depot sounds real good about now. Cabelas does too.

Ah the lead up to the holidays annual firings. I worked at a place 7 years where every first week of December you knew several people weren't going to make the Xmas party.
Sorry brother. Keep positive and just think, you can live off your uncle Barry for almost 2 years now.

Sorry to hear this news.
that sucks sorry to hear that.
PM me your email, we are always hiring. Not the best, but shit i've been working there for 13 years and its paid the bills and then some. Your line of work as well.
That totally blows, sorry about that man.
26 years telecom you were making good money probably. Working retail customer service is not the way to make money. :(
Hope something goes your way.
Sorry to hear that. I have been going on 3 years now of get a job loose job, find new job loose new job. It's getting old but I finally said screw it and started to look into things I could myself. In about 1 year I should be able to accomplish that and start to work for myself again.
P.S. Don't work at Home Depot...I did for about a year and it sucked.

Definitely sucks. Maybe everything will work out in the end and you can do something you might enjoy more with less stress.

that sucks for sure, but hey on the bright side, Obama's got your back with lots of hand outs.
I am sure something will turn up for you, you have experience on your side.

Sorry to hear that, good luck to you. Unfortunately, you weren't the first and won't be the last by a long shot after last week. Unlike some Democrats who relished the thought of American failure either economically or militarily during Bush's presidency, I wish there was a way to head off the economic collapse I fear Obama's policies are bringing. I keep hoping I'm wrong about him and his policies because of the pain it will bring so many people.

I know that there are/will be telecom officials being hired... I do not know anything beyond that.
So if you know what a DS3 is and how it all works, and you don't mind driving a desk.
I play at a lower level with more 'hands on' :)
edit: The Ability to acquire and maintain a clearance is going to be a pre-requisite.
Have you had the severance discussion yet? Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll give you a couple months or more of pay in one lump sum... That would be nice right around Christmas time. I was laid off by a big chip company back in 2006 and had 3 months of severance pay plus vacation time coming to me when i left, I found work about 6 weeks later so it ended up PAYING to get laid off. I'm crossing my fingers for you!

Sorry to hear about that. I can sympathize. My wife was out of work for 2 years after multiple layoffs. She just started a new job 3 months ago for less than half what she was making before. Good luck with the search and keep your head up.
Thanks guys! I appreciate the kind words and thoughts!
Guy, that's kinda interesting....I may have to look into that! One of the guys I've worked with for years is a Captain in the COANG, done his time in 'Stan, and is now doing the same shit work we've all been doing at this co. and hating every minute of it. He keeps saying that if he could find something permanent in the military he'd bolt in a heartbeat. In The Guard, he outranks our Director and gets better pay as well, but as a civvie he's just another bootlicker like the rest of us.
Good Luck with the wild world. Same thing happened to me when I hit 54, 32 years for the same corp. Had to look for a job and hell Denver called.

I'm sorry to hear that man. A buddy of mine just lost his job in IT after 16 years with the company... and he voted for Obama. He is looking into going into business for himself with the severence package. For the time being, he's doing 3-4 interviews per day to find something just in case. Good luck and I hope you find something soon.
