So, I needed a few target stands like the one in the link below.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/597445/nevco-idpa-ipsc-standard-portable-target-stand

Once I saw the price I knew I would probably be building my own. Picked up enough new metal for $40 to build eight of them like the one I was looking at. And I get to play with my welder. [Awesom]

They will if my welder isn't acting up. Last time I used it the wire feed was doing funny things. I think I just need to do some minor adjusting on it.

I'm even going to paint them when I'm done. [Beer]

Probably try to get them together next week while I'm off.

Im thinking about fabbing up some steel targets. I had some pretty thick plate laying around but think I used it up, so when I get a chance I am going to run over to C&M, pick up some plate, and spend some quality time with the plasma cutter and welder [Beer]

I'll keep that in mind but I wouldn't hold me breath if I were you. [Coffee]

I wish I had a plasma cutter. Those things are awesome.

Thanks, Jim. I think mine just needs minor adjument to the tensioner for the wire feed and maybe the tip needs a litte cleaning. Worst case, I can use the stick welder. But I hate stick welding.

I'd make a killing at $15 each. Unfortunately, I don't have time to be doing stuff like that for anyone other than myself. [Beer]

If you guys want some targets or stands let me know, making 10 is as easy as making two or three if its planned out.

And yeah the plasma is nice, but since we build roll cages and other stuff we tend to be pretty tooled up for a variety of stuff...

I wouldn't mind some steel targets. Nothing fancy. I imagine mild steel would work fine for handgun rounds. Maybe just some simple circles cut out of 3/8" plate. Maybe 8" or 10" diameter. It would probably be after the holidays before I would be serious about it.

Maybe a few of us would be interested in some to make it worth your time.

I've found a way to build target stands for about $1 that I use. Not as neat as those though

Always fun playing with welders!!

I need to go talk to my old dirt digger friend. He "says" he's got a bunch of AR steel laying I can have!

These are for a specific purpose. They will hold IPSC or IDPA targets. I suppose some sort of simple wood frame with a cardboard backing could be used for just about any type of target though. I'll have about $5 worth of material into each one.

On your mig Ray check your liner for the gun. Replacing it often cures myriads of maladies most of which make you think the feed rollers are FUBAR. Once you do get a felt collar for the wire, it keeps it clean plus you can add lubricant as well.
Chop saw here as well if you need to use one.

Thanks, Bert. I have to run into work for a couple of hours on Monday morning so I will probably cut the metal while I'm there. I might have a little tig project to bring to you next week.

I just build mine with 2x4's. The base is separate from the frame part, the frame just fits into the base. Stable and wind resistant. Top is basic 24"x24", just mount a piece of 24"x24" heavy cardboard and staple targets to it. Next up, I've got to figure out a way to put a bunch of sporting clays on the cardboard....I'm thinking maybe I can hold them on with screws somehow.

While wood might be easier to work with, it is heavier and takes up more storage space in my garage than the ones I am going to build. Having one of them is no big deal but I plan on having ten or fifteen of them by the time I'm done.

Plus, the wooden ones won't let me play with my welder. [Awesom]

This is what I am making for anyone who was curious or didn't understand.
