Saw this on CNN today, wanted to share. Not sure what their liability insurance is.

I was under the impression you bring your own gun (with all the bells and whistles) and they modify it so you can train at their facility?

I saw this on Yahoo yesterday. These news agencies need to be hit with a rolled up newspaper for their panic stricken, misleading headlines.

The link won't load at work... If it is what I think it is.. It's the SimUnitions rounds... They don't hurt. Well, they do. But there's no danger to it. Just like paintball. We use Sims all the time. I've been shot more than once. A pretty nice bruise if you get hit with clothing covering it. A nice cut if it's bare skin. I love Sims.

That would be cool training, getting to use your own carry piece. I'm not so sure about dropping $150 for a session there.

It's the sims that require a conversion, they're basically selling you the sim ammo and rental of the conversion. And use of their facilities.

Simmunitions/UTMs is a great way to train CQB/Home defense.

Hated the fact the "Owner" calling the AR an "Assault Weapon" .............. why do they help feed the media?

A novel concept bad title, more than likely to sensationalize to get people to watch.

I like the young man with no armor just glasses, that has to hurt, when I was into paintball ages ago i wore heavy clothing and a face shield but only after only wearing glasses and taking one to the cheek.........

Sim's are fun and while you feel it when it hits you, like others have said it's no worse than paintball. ACSO was doing live shooter drills at the old Southglenn before they tore it down, was fun to be able to shoot back at them and attempt to survive the four man teams they sent in.

I looked up a lot about simunitions a while back and as a civilian you can not buy them, LE and .mil only. They are still considered less than lethal controlled weapons and they do possess the energy to penetrate your rib cage if you were shot from point blank range without armor or protection (it would have to be absolutely the worst set of conditions possible, but it is possible). They lose their energy much faster than a paintball because the projectile is less than 1/8th the weight but they are denser and moving a lot faster than a paintball. I have seen other training courses offered where you get to use them, but this is the first place like this that I have ever seen where they even allow someone to be out on the course without protective gear and full face mask. I think that is bad policy even if you are certain that they are the only one with a weapon out there. What if they are an idiot and shoot themselves in the face? Seems like a pretty big risk to me.

On the other hand, I think that this would be a very successful business around here some place. If you set up right you could even host or cater to LE as well as have the common Joe come in and give it a try. I would pay $150 to go out and train with some of you guys every month if it were available.

Of course now I look it up and there is a civilian section on their website, but it still wont let me order anything.

Been tried before. Insurance too high and not enough people have the money to spend to cover the costs of FoF training. Sim/UTM rounds are expensive, conversion kits almost as much as the guns themselves, PPE, etc...

I know that it would be expensive, but looking at everything there are still other business' around that offer high risk sports. I cant see the risk involved here being any higher than a ski resort or skydiving business. You would have to sit down and crunch the numbers, but I am fairly certain that if you found the right location, had the right lawyers draft up the liability waivers, and had proper business planning that it would be profitable and still cost effective for the average shooter. It would be easier for someone with an established business in the area to make it work because that experience and expertise would put insurance companies at ease and it would be cheaper and easier for them to acquire the supplies through their existing business. The average Joe would have a hard time getting it off the ground, but there might be someone out there that could make it work for an affordable price.

Yep, Simms do hurt, I have a buddy who does LEO training and I have done active shooter drills with him. We used Glock 9mm and Colt AR15's

Never taken one to the finger. I have taken more than one to bare skin before. One in the love handle too. That shit hurt. Most recent one was in the thigh. Came around the corner to make entry to a hallway and the cop playing the Bad Guy was waiting at the end of the hall. BLAM! One in the thigh.

Again, tried before by several training companies. Not profitable due to low demand. Other sports are "if someone gets hurt." With Sims/UTM it is "when someone gets hurt..." so very hugh insurance. No way around it.

That is awesome. I'd love to do that. I think it'd be more comfortable for people to go up against their friends, then it would be to be thrown into the shot house going up against teams of Mick-Boys and coloccws.

I took a pistol class in July with TAC-Ops solutions down in Arvada (Joe Deedon). The shooting portion of the class are several drills using modified G17s and 9mm simunitions. Completely awesome! I agree with Jim and the others - wear heavy sweatshirts and gloves! It was 95 degrees that day and although I was a sweaty mess (headgear is extremely hot!), the only bruise I had was my left hand pinky - wearing tac gloves. They do sting a bit when you get hit, but I think most guys don't mind that. The two girls in the class didn't like the sting/bruise aspect, tho/. :-)

Two things became apparent - simunitions are not reliable - lots of misfeeds/misfires - and in a gunfight it may be common to have gun/hands/arms hit a LOT. This really underlines the need to be reasonably proficient with your support hand only - as the strong hand may well be inoperative.

Dark (pitch black) building searches... You wanna talk about hands and arms... Most people shoot towards the light... Well, if you have your light hanging off the end of your gun where are people gonna be shooting at?
