By doing this you remove the anodizing and expose the softer aluminum underneath.
Which could cause early erosion from the hot gases during ejection.

You're right, Bob. With such a small area that is affected I really doubt it will hurt anything. I could be wrong though.

To the OP.... I have run barrels with M4 cuts in receivers that didn't have the cuts with no problems. Of course I have also owned rifles that didn't have the M4 cuts in the barrel extension or the receiver and they ran just fine too.
