View Full Version : Locksmith Neeeded ASAP.
I need a key made for a 1999 Ford Expedition. My neighbor lost her key and needs a new one made. Call me ASAP if you can help or know a guy.
She just got her ass beat and thrown out of the house. And was getting it beat more in her car until I intervened and found out she couldn't leave.

Don't you need the key before you can make a copy of a key? Was it a guy or girl beating her?
A locksmith can make a new key either with the key number (unlikely in this case) or from an impression.

Dealers should have a decoder ring that uses the VIN number to cut a key, that is if the lock has not ever been changed. It is quite expensive though.
Damn that sucks... Don't know anyone but if you need cash I'll PayPal you some money to help pay to get her a key.
Did you call the cops?
It was her father beating her ass. After I arrived he fell and then got into his car and left. Her 5 sisters and Mother was there with her watching it and didn't or couldn't do anything to stop the situation from getting violent. The sisters did manage to call the cops after he left and when they arrived they jumped on me before knowing what was going on. Because she didn't want to press charges after the cops gave a very convincing argument that she should. Foremost being they can't do anything to him unless she cooperates. She still didn't want to get him caught up in the courts system. I can relate and would have gone either way on that one. The officers of the law left, apologized to me. (That is going to be another topic) and she cleaned out her stuff from her sister's apartment that she was flopping at. Since her and the dad are on the lease and he was kicking her out because he wanted $25 for her part of the cable bill.
The girl managed to get a locksmith out there to get her another key. Cost her $120 which was less than the $175 I was quoted from 303 locksmith and others around town. But I think I might put together a collection and get her a spare key with a hide-a-key box.
Shouldn't be more than a few bucks I would imagine.
Now onto the issue at hand. I feel like I should run it by some of you guys since I'm at a loss for what to do next. These people are my tenents and I should kick them all out into the street. But being that I'm lazy and believe in second chances I want to have a talk with him about this never happening again. Should I bother or should I just kick them out and rerent the place and start all over breaking in new people that may or maynot be as bad or worse?
Damn I hate drama. His eye is pretty swollen from the fall I hope it hurts. Is that enough of a lesson?
The fucker owes me $40 for last months water bill. I guess violence is the only way he knows how to ask for money. Maybe I should get gangland style on him? Kidding of course.

I'm curious to hear the other topic... I'll get the popcorn going... [LOL]
I'm not happy about the stereotyping of a white man in a mexican hood being singled out. I might lodge a complaint against them.
Jut re-read post . . . did not realize Dad was on the lease. How long have they been tenants?
Since July. They have a 6 month lease.
He's back over there now. I gave him a few minutes to relax and think about what he did wrong. Maybe I should go talk with him now? Or I can wait for the co owner to get here so I have a witness as to what was said. Just in case he throws himself on the ground again and says it was me. Better safe than sorry I'm thinking.
I would wait for a third party witness. Since the family wont press charges they likely won't see the conversation either.

A fist can turn in to a knife, or gun within seconds . My tenants would already be grabbing their shit off the curb.

So if you own the property don't you have the ability to file charges? I'm not recommending you do that, just curious. I personally would at least kick him out. If there's some sort of domestic violence going on on property you own, you know about it, and say it happens again or something worse happens, could you be held liable?

That doesn't say much... I'm gonna keep quiet though. I don't know the whole story. I hope you get the resolution you're looking for.
If it were me, I would avoid getting into their business only because it is more heartache for you. I would encourage the daughter to do what she thought was right and let her know that there are other options and help out there for her if she did pursue pressing charges. Then I would approach the father (having the building co-owner with you) and tell him with no uncertain terms that this is their first and last warning that if anything like this ever happens again that they pack their bags and get out. The only reason that I would give them another chance is because of the rest of the family. Kicking them all out on the street is only going to make their life more difficult. But in an attempt to protect yourself I think that I would get the officer in charge to give you a copy of the police report, or write up an official statement about the events and you verify that they have everything correct on your behalf. Then if you go to evict them if they are giving you problems about getting out you have some ammo against them for a forced eviction.
She thought I was kidding about giving her a spare key in case she needs one. Until I gave her a hide a box and a gift certificate to Pep Boys. The talk is going to have to wait until tomorrow. Working on Sunday's there should be a law.

Damn doc.. We have such bad luck with tenants in that area. I am getting ready to evict the current one from the same house that is a block away from you.
I've had some good luck. Like people that weren't criminals paying 6 months in advance. These people are ruining my 1.5 year record.
Hey guys just fyi ill be looking to rent. Off topic but jst throwing it out there.

3 Day eviction notice or they can sign a new lease without pops on it?
Not sure it's doable, but a thought.

Definitely get a copy of the arrest report. Make a written record of all prior incidents. They CAN be served with a "notice to quit" fast track eviction for this, if that is something you want to pursue. Crimes and violence committed by a tenant on the rental property is legitimate grounds for that. You will have problems with these jerks again. I would not renew the 6 month lease. I would also not be surprised to find out that the property is trashed, with holes punched in wall and fixtures and appliances damaged beyond repair.

By the time I got my renters evicted in NC they'd done over $10K in damage. Got a judgement but was never able to collect despite spending more $ trying.

Yea, judgements against deadbeats are tough to collect or not always worth the cost/trouble. We leased our old house in WI until it sold and it was the worst decision ever. Tenants could never be bothered to be out for realtor showings, wouldn't keep the place clean and neat, and got several months behind in rent.
We were finally able to get them out when the house sold for below market value and never did get that judgement paid. He - construction worker claiming to be suddenly unemployed, she - wheelchair bound and on SS benefits that are untouchable. I know the prick was working for cash and not reporting an income. Renting long distance with family looking out for things is also a bad idea. I should have paid the commission for a property manager and things wouldn't have gotten to the point they did.
My parents owned a rental house, ONCE. One of the most valuable lessons my father ever taught me was DON'T EVER own a rental house! I have no desire to. I have enough pains in my ass and my balls, thank you.
Oh, and FWIW - I've had new keys cut at dealerships before pretty cheap. Just need the VIN# and some kind of proof that you own the vehicle. Last one I had made, I found out that it would unlock the door fine, but the Jeep Liberty wouldn't run with it. It would start and die, because the damn Jeep had to have its electronic key to actually go. But the brass key was great for a wallet spare in case I locked the real keys inside again.
Crazy situation man, Kudos for stepping in and helping her. Its a crappy situation all the way around. Isn't the lease up at the end of December / January (6 mo from july)? I would just wait it out until something like this happens again or the lease is expired. Last thing you need is them destroying the place before they leave. As for him, well lets just say I don't like violence against women regardless if it's a daughter or wife / Gf. I commend you for handling it better than I would have.
man i really want to get a rental property but have seen SO many horror stories on this site it has really made me reconsider

^ naw man.. you will never hear about the boring tenants who always pay on time. I'd rather deal w/ tenants than another stock broker. :)

I did say he fell right?
She is greatful and wants to pay me back. I told her she could wash my tub for me. She said she could wear short shorts and skimpy shirt. If she will clean my tub she can wear whatever she wants. I told her my girlfriend would mind and prefer her not do it. But I don't care really. JMHO.
I just like the part that he "fell"[LOL]
He has been ducking me all day. I think he's mad at me and might even be planning on getting away from the place to somewhere he can beat his kids in peace. He isn't going to like me garnishing his wages if he breaks the lease.
I got that on the first read. LMAO
