Not trying to be funny or anything like that; "Fight Club" literally saved my life. I'll go into more detail if the thread continues.

So Brad Pitt saved your life? Or was it Edward Norton?

I think some movies present good ideas and thoughts that can help us in our daily lives, same as reading a quality book. Whether it be a bit of insight, or laughing in the face of someone pummeling you!

Rocky gave me Eye of the Tiger, but the Optometrist gave me something to make it better.

Does that count?

"His name was Robert Paulson"; let me be the first to say you should spend some quality time with your balls.

"And juggle the balls! What are they, orphans, honey? It's a three-piece set!".... not saying you need to ignore the main guy just spend a little extra time.

no, can't say that a movie has saved my life. some have affected it I guess, in the way I remember quotes and still laugh at some of the scenes or how I can memorize entire movies, but I've never been near "the edge" either.

Almost went to the midnight showing of Dark Knight Rises at Century 16. Decided not to at the last minute.

i always have a ton of great quotes in my head but i can really think of an example of a whole film front to back that has deeply effected me in any way ..... ok the movie " sid and nancy " . saw that one when it came out and i never have for one second wanted to do drugs .

For me there's been some that strike me very deeply in a inspirational kinda way. Gran Torino is my favorite movie. Think it's the only one to get me all emotional.

Then you have like No Country for Old Men which is like the best movie I ever hated if that makes sense. (Disgust/loathing at how things went/ended, only makes sense if you've seen it and I don't want to spoil it.)

I'm definately not one for popcorn flicks (except Waterworld/Mad max esque stuff). Love movies of substance, Shaw Shank Redemption, Hunt for Red October, etc. I'm such a wierd kid.

Let em ask you this. What came first, the movies or the behaviors generated by it. Are there really any movies that make a social impact other than negative ones. Were there assholes in the ghettoes with guns first or did the movies glorify asshole behaviors then there were more guns....

I will forever be in debt to the movie. I will go into detail only if the OP goes into detail of why he started this thread. Seriously, you need us to beg you or something? If you're going to start a thread topic at least have the decency to follow through with it. A shrink would make comment on how this need to feel wanted would reflect your personal mental status and issues.

I enjoyed the philosophy and the story behind both the movie and the book of Fight Club. However, the only movie that I can definitively say changed (I'm pretty self-directed and happy, so I won't say "saved") or influenced me profoundly was "Into The Wild". There are things about Christopher McCandless's character and views on life that still reverberate with me, and I believe have shaped decisions that I've made over the past several years. He wasn't a perfect human being by any sense, but he sure was a unique one. And one worth emulating in many respects.

Requiem for a Dream did the same for me... After seeing that I just said "No!" Nancy would be so proud of me! [Beer]

Ok OP, please do tell how Fight Club saved your life... It didn't save mine, but it did make me think, I don't want to die without any scars. [Coffee]

WOW, I thought I was being pretty obvious with the spending more quality time with your balls response.

I was sitting in a hotel room in Miami watching Fight Club and fondling my balls.... Not anything sexual, I usually do that when I watch TV (I still do the same thing but it's no longer plural) and the movive made me think a bit..... something didn't feel quite right, a lump about 1/2 the size of a marble but it was enough to make me go to the Dr. when I got back to CO.

Of course the Dr was very positive "I'm sure it's nothing", "let's do some blood work and an ultrasound"...... By the time I got back to the office about 30 min later I knew I was fucked when I had a message from him that he had already set up an appointment with the Oncologist (kudos to Kaiser for this one).

I was lucky and everything went well and now I have two beautiful children. Just a reminder to spend some time with the boys.

Checking your junk is a serious matter and everyone needs to do it.

I have a good friend in the hospital right now going through some very heavy Chemo. By the time he had the testicle removed the cancer had already spread to his back, right lung and lymph modes. He's only 22 so the doctors are very concerned, when you get cancer at a young age it spreads very quickly and is much more difficult to get under control than it is for older folks.

Ok, not that I haven't been serious in this thread (even though I've tried to keep it light hearted), if you have a son going through anything similar (there are lots of football and hockey injuries that end up with the same outcome). Have them get a prosthetic if it's an option. I had surgery the next day and it didn't seem like a big deal but I know I would have made a different decision if I was presented with the same question today.

Some funny jokes when you've only got 1.

"A man like that, you'd think he has a lot of balls.... nope just one"

"You've got a lot of balls!"
"Nope just one, but it's big and angry"

"Don't make me set this on you"... I guess that one works with any number of balls and even an empty scrotum...

At least I keep myself entertained.
