Well...they shouldn't be violating a "no-fly" zone. This isn't the first time it's happened...you'd think they'd learn.

I got it...........

Let's send something that flies.. to film guys that are not only in practice of shooting things that fly , but are actively engaged in shooting things that fly at that moment..

No way they will shoot it down. [Luck]

You just know that the guy that shot down the drone was the hero of that tournament! Can a private (PETA, etc) legally fly a surveillance drone over someone else's property?

That's why you always have to have some buckshot with you... unless you're Watefowl hunting. I'm guessing some 3.5" BB would do a fine job as well.

I would so love to somehow make a guided rocket to take 'em out. That'd be pretty cool to see...

Maybe they can come to an agreement. if SHARK will provide enough remote controlled drones with high dollar camera equipment for the pigeon shooters to shoot at instead of pigeons, they will let the birds live a little longer!

I'll trade a fifty-cent or dollar-per-shot bullet for $4K damage on privacy-invading equipment misused by ignorant activists any day.

One of the thing I hadn't seen mentioned- How did the group retrieve their drone "pieces" on private property. Did they trespass to get it back?? And they are the ones who called the police??

What this highlights is the need for laws to protect citizens from such surveillance, whether it be from police/military or civilians. Is it legal for a private business or individual to fly a remote-controlled aircraft over someone else's private property? Further, is it legal for them to shoot video and/or record audio?

I do understand SHARK's concern with the pigeon shoots. They strike me as pretty low on the ethical hunting scale. However, two wrongs don't make a right, and both groups have exhibited some pretty poor behavior over the years this fight has been going on.

If it were me I would tell everyone going in for the shoot that the drones were double points and could be shot by anyone out of turn. Either that or I would make my own attack drone and take their drone out seconds after liftoff right in front of them, then post the video of their reactions just to see how they like it.

FWIW, I have no issue with pigeon shoots. In my hometown about twice a year the pigeon problem would be so bad downtown a shoot would organized and I literally saw guys with shotguns on the Courthouse roof taking out pigeons left and right, any property owner in town could shoot pigeons and other pests out of fruit trees and gardens with airguns pretty much at will. I dont get how all animals, even pests, are suddenly only to be "hunted" and not killed.

If I could, I'd sponsor a pigeon shoot in my neighborhood. If I were the paranoid type, I'd say the car wash industry is behind the "protect the pigeons" movement. Follow The Money! http://www.mossonarock.ca/forum/Smileys/akyhne/tinfoil.gif

SHARK claimed “a single sharp rifle crack rang out,” in a press release sent out on Monday.

Damn. Dude used a RIFLE to shoot a robot bird out of the sky? That guy can shoot.

Not to mention, there couldn't have been much of a
live pigeon shoot going on if there was only a SINGLE shot that rang out...

Yep, damned good shooting if it was a rifle. Probably was a magnum load of buck. I think that champion of flying rats should get laid or do something else to get a life.

Let's suggest he move to Colorado since he'll be able to legally smoke pot. That should get him out here. I'd love to have a chance to shoot down a drone. Wonder what scoring that gun club was using for it. It's gotta be worth more than 10 pigeons.

If they turned us loose downtown once or twice a year with airguns, I'd have no problem with it either.

In this case, it's my understanding the pigeons are in boxes, and are remotely released from their boxes to be shot at. Kind of like live clay shooting. Again, doesn't strike me as very sporting and it's certainly not about eliminating a pest problem.

Also, it looks like the "drone" is more of a helicopter-type device than an airplane. This would make sense for it to hover and shoot footage of the event. It would also make sense for it to be taken out with a rifle.

You got that backwards. Clay shooting is kind of like shooting live birds released from traps...Hence the name "trap shooting"

I'm not buying the "rifle" part of his story due to the kind of damage shown on his 'copter but I don't think it would have been that tough of a shot. Remember, they were hovering it in place to get steady video footage. I'm guessing the altitude was no more than 200 ft so shouldn't have been that hard a shot -- but there would have been a helluva lot more damage (or at least, different kind of damage) to the copter if it'd been hit with a .30-06 or .30-30.

I have been to the pidg shoots and its a kick in the ass. Guy at in a pit with a thrower and out they came. I feel that this guys attempt to use a UAV is a violation of privacy. Just wish that they would of shot it down so that they could not of recovered it and used it as of evidence against shark.

next time we have a shooting event I'll bring some remote controlled copters with exploding targets strapped to them
