View Full Version : EOTech feedback
Hey all,
Your chance to have some influence. [Coffee]
I have read thru the previous opinions here.
Santa will probably be coughing up an EOTech for Christmas. I have looked at them some on various platforms.
My only initial configuration desire:
Side mounted controls
Two options that leaves me with:
NV or not to NV
Small format (EXPS) vs full size
So, I'm looking for thoughts on (1) the small version versus the large and (2) the need for NV capability. I'll sort out the 2 AA's vs 2 CR123's if I go full size after cutting through this chase.
Not really needing any AimPoint vs EOTech comparisons ... I currently have a PA M4 on my 15-22. Looking to move to the HOLO now for my AR.
Thanks in advance on any/all (well, mostly all [Tooth] ) opinions.

I love mine. (512) I couldn't justify the extra cash for the nv option cause I never plan on having the extra cash for that. Just my 2 cents.

EXPS2, unless you are going to lay out mega cash on some NV items.
The small profile leaves room on the upper for BUIS and a magnifier if you plan on one.
the same for me, do you plan to shoot at night? buy a Night Vision attachment? forget the NV

Can't tell from literature ... is the actual optic lens the same size and just the structure smaller due to transverse battery compartment?

I'm partial to the XPS models myself. They only need one battery and the reticle was a lot sharper than my 553. I'm guessing it's simply because they are a newer generation. It's also pretty nice having a lot of rail space back.
had this question about the smaller vs full size as well. I guess they are upgrading and eventually will phase out the full size model? Is there a benifit to having the larger one with the double batterys?

The optic lens is the same size, 1.20" X .85" on all the models.

actually a benefit is to have a transverse placed battery so the recoil won't break the contacts after a lot of shooting.
co-witness go with XPS , lower 1/3 co-witness get an EXPS

I own a lot of EOTechs. Most are 512s. They are not rated as night vision compatible, but my understanding is that their lowest settings won't fry or overdrive most NV gear. You can make all kinds of arguments as to which model is best. The 512 is cheapest, and since none of the EOTechs have the bat-shit crazy battery life of Aimpoints, I like that it runs on easily attainable AA batteries. You can mount the 512 far enough forward on the receiver to accommodate a low profile BUIS and a magnifier.
I have not had battery issues, although I have heard of them enough times from folks I trust to believe they exist. I have a 2006 512 that is back with L3 because it lost it's nitrogen charge and could not get bright enough to overcome daylight wash-out.

It is a nice option to have extra room on your rail. Thus the major reason why Eotech shrunk the sight.
The EXPS2-0 (non night vision compatible) has a QD mount, button are on the side (must if mounting a 3x magnifier) and your EOTech will sit higher than the 512 or XPS2.
If you believe you will have night vision in the future; we strongly recommend the EXPS3-0. With night vision the reticle is crisp and easy to distinguish in high light conditions. I would not use low settings on any non night vision compatible EOTechs because left on for a period of time you will burn the image into your night vision device.
GG&G out of Tucson, AZ has some great package deals for EoTech's, which include the sight and QD mounts. They're stuff is solid, and extremely tough. Good service and fast shipping, too.

Thanks to all for the input!!
I want the lower 1/3 co-witness, so an EXPS is now the plan. I'll figure out the NV need and then HO! HO! HO! [Santa]
