i am doing a reseach paper for my economy class about ammo. i need specifics like the top manufacturers,
1. Characteristicsof the product. What, fundamentally, is it? What is it for? When was itinvented and why?
2. Analysisof product supply. How is it made, where, by whom? What inputs and rawmaterials are required for production in what proportions? What does it cost? Try to guess what marginal, fixed and variablecost curves might look like for this product. This section should include numbers.
3. Analysisof the retail market and distribution chain for the product. Who buys it from whom in order to sellit? How is the product marketed? How does it get from point A to point B?
4. Analysisof product demand. Who purchases thegood and why? What ‘demand shifters’ arelikely to affect demand for the product and in what way? What goods might be considered substitutes orcomplements? Do you expect the priceelasticity and income elasticity to be positive or negative, large or small?
5. Analysisof government regulation. What does thegovernment require of the firms that produce the good? Are taxied levied on the sale or productionof the product? Is production subsidized? What are the impacts on the market ofregulation, taxation or subsidization?
6. Analysisof market competition. Explain whetheryou believe the market to be perfectly competitive, monopolisticallycompetitive, an oligopoly or a pure monopoly and most importantly why. Include a discussion of barriers to entry in your particularmarket. Do the same for the demand side, are there many potential buyers or is the market a monopsony? How does thisimpact or determine the behavior of firms and consumers?

I would like some help finding credible sources i keep running into a bunch of crap like top varmit round im not looking for that im looking for ammo in gerneral its very broad and thats how the professor wants it. any help with good links wold be appreciated.

Back on the ol' Paintball forum kids used to post this kinda stuff all the time... The most common answer was, "Do you own damn homework."

Since I can't help you in your quest... Do you own damn homework.

Here's 2 free economic lessons. Businesses love to talk about themselves. Businesses respect boldness.

Get the numbers for the PR or customer service line for a few of the top manufacturers (e.g. Federal, Winchester, Remington, etc) and call them up. Tell them you are a student and doing a research paper on the economic role that ammunition manufacturers play in the firearms industry. Tell them you'd like to "schedule a telephone interview" and ask for an email address that you can send your interview questions to so that they can pre-screen them (this will let them know that you don't intend on ambushing them on some stupidity like why they sell death). Don't send them the questions you posted above. Re-write them so they are conversational. Also, do your own homework on some of the questions. I wouldn't give you the time of day if you sent me a bunch of questions you couldn't answer with google. Questions 1-3 should be easy enough to figure out with some common sense.

Some search terms
:ATK, Olin, Alliant, Hogdon, Hornaday, IMI, Lake City, Tula

Focus on the individual components, brass cases, primers, powder, and bullets.

You could focus on specific types of ammunition, commercial vs military, or foreign vs domestic manufacturers.

Just some quick history:

Baglock1 makes a very good point, I would reach out to Black Hills as a manufacturer. They have always been super responsive to questions when I have dealt with them, and extremely helpful.

The price of commodities plays a huge part in price in ammo. The predominating commodity for ammo price is lead. It's used in the bullets AND in the primers. Without it, primers are usually made with silver or other more expensive chemical compounds, and bullets start going off into extensively more expensive materials. I wouldn't be too difficult to reflect ammo prices and lead prices over the last 5 years.
